About dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that we inject just beneath your skin. They can reconstruct a more youthful look and smooth lines and deep wrinkles.
Restylane: The Restylane family of fillers (Restylane, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, etc.) are excellent options for mature skin. Each filler is designed to treat specific areas and to address common problems associated with aging. Our patients love the natural looking results.
Hyaluronic acid wrinkle fillers are the most popular ones. Though your skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid, you can use it for its skin-plumping and hydrating properties. Hyaluronic acid wrinkle fillers have a gel-like texture and can last for at least 6-12 months.
Many plastic surgeons say that Juvederm and Restylane are the most durable and longest-lasting fillers available. Both contain hyaluronic acid and are good for smoothing wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid carries 1,000 times its weight in water and makes the skin look young, supple, and soft.
Use a concealer that won't sit heavily on your skin.
Look for products that say “light coverage” and “wrinkle-reducing” to keep your skin looking smooth and soft. With a concealer, less is more. Try to focus on areas that really need it, like your under eyes, and keep it off the rest of your skin.
Hyaluronic acid is the most common natural filler. Hyaluronic acid is also known as extracellular matrix. It is a gel-like material which is found normally in the body and is the consistency of a thick gel.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Daxxify, a new injected medicine for smoothing facial wrinkles in adults, which dermatologists see as the first major competitor to Botox to emerge in decades.
Juvederm® Voluma and Restylane® Lyft are designed to treat deep wrinkles. Radiesse® is another type of injectable filler used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles. Radiesse® uses microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite to stimulate collagen production.
Your dermatologist can also use non-ablative laser resurfacing to reduce the presence and appearance of wrinkles. This treatment involves the delivery of heat to eliminate old, pigmented cells and stimulate the skin into producing more collagen.
Microneedling can be used to address deep furrows and wrinkles on the face, as well as hard-to-reach places like the mouth. Microneedling works for eye wrinkles, wrinkles around the mouth, fine lines under the eyes, and more.
Dysport is more diluted than Botox. The difference in concentration typically occurs because Dysport uses smaller protein molecules to induce muscle relaxation. These smaller proteins are less likely to be broken down by antibodies, making the results of Dysport injections quite desirable for patients.
Botox can not fill out very deep wrinkles, and will likely not smooth them out completely. In order to completely eradicate deeper lines, you may want to look into filler, or other facial treatments, such as non surgical facelifts, face lifts, thread lifts, and other treatments available.
Laser resurfacing
This treatment is very useful at eradicating deeply set wrinkles, folds and furrows. The laser light beams dissolve damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production for beautifully glowing, younger looking skin.
A liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer is most likely to compliment a maturing complexion. Unlike powder formulas, liquid foundations are less likely to settle into your pores and fine lines. They're more flattering for aging skin, as they possess hydrating properties to naturally create that coveted dewy finish.
If you've ever thought your makeup makes you look more wrinkled, it might be by virtue of dehydrated skin. Makeup has a way of leaching the moisture from the skin, accentuating pores, and highlighting fine lines and wrinkles. So if your skin looks worse with foundation, this could be a major culprit.
L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation
It has been formulated specifically not to settle into lines, its lightweight blend of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and aloe hydrates as it helps skin look more even.
“The short answer is no,” says Dr. Miriam Hanson, board certified dermatologist and cosmetic expert in Austin, Texas. “Wrinkles do not become worse after having dermal fillers.” Dermal fillers comprise a family of injectable medications that restore volume in areas of the skin where it has been lost.
As well as stretching of the skin, excessive use of fillers can result in longer term damage including wrinkling of the lip and disturbance of the attachment of the facial fat pads and some degree of irregularity and ageing of the skin, he explains.
