On 27 May 1967, Australians voted to change the Constitution so that like all other Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples would be counted as part of the population and the Commonwealth would be able to make laws for them.

In the largest majority of any Australian referendum, voters overwhelmingly supported a proposal to count Indigenous peoples in the national census and to give the Federal Parliament power to legislate for Indigenous peoples.
1967—Prime Minister Harold Holt announces that the Constitution Alteration Bill has passed in both Houses of Parliament allowing for a referendum to be called on whether or not Australia should change the wording of the constitution. The date is set for 27 May 1967.
The first handheld calculator invented. South African doctor Christiaan Barnard performed the first heart transplant. Rolling Stone began publication. The first issue sold about 5,000 copies.
The year 1967 was designated the “Summer of Love” when somewhere between 75,000 and 100,000 youth flooded 25 blocks in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district. Beforehand, the neighborhood was home to a small community of “hip” residents interested in art, music, theatre, and literature.

Neville Chamberlain became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom when Stanley Baldwin retired. Chamberlain signalled an intention to continue Baldwin's policies by making very few changes to the cabinet.
1929 Australia began a new gold rush in the Southwest part of the continent. 1934 Bank Robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are killed by federal agents. 1945 Nazi Heinrich Himmler committed suicide after being taken into Allied custody. 2008 12 South American countries created the Union of South American Nations.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced that American forces in the Vietnam War had suffered their heaviest casualties since the start of the war, with 232 men killed and 1,381 wounded during the week ending March 4.
On May 26, 1937, the Battle of the Overpass took place. Union members were beaten by Ford Motor Co. reps for distributing leaflets. The company tried to destroy the photos, but this one survived, raising public sympathy for the union and leading to the establishment of the Pulitzer Prize for photography.

The first heart transplant in the United Kingdom was performed by Dr. Donald Ross and a team of surgeons at the National Heart Hospital in London. The patient, Frederick West, would survive for 46 days until dying from complications of an infection.
