LONDON — Terry Hall, the British musician and lead singer in the late 1970s ska-punk band the Specials, has died at 63, the group announced Monday.
The background: Released almost 40 years ago, Ghost Town was a protest song, a bitter commentary on Thatcher's England. Its despair-laden lyrics reflected the depressing time: a country in deep recession and the decimation of towns and cities like Coventry where The Specials hailed from.
