I rubbed my face after having Botox®. Will this affect the results? No, it should have no effect, especially if it happened several hours after having the procedure.
We recommend that you do not rub the Botox treatment area for up to 4 hours post-treatment. This includes the gentle rubbing associated with a facial treatment. We advise not having a facial within 24 hours post-procedure.
One of the biggest things that you should avoid after Botox is rubbing the area where Botox was injected until fully healed. It can irritate it, prolonging redness and even causing bruising. Rubbing your face can even spread Botox to neighboring muscles creating an undesired result that could last a few months.
Nevertheless, you can continue your routine skin care routine, including touching your face to cleanse and moisturize it. However, it's best to wait at least six hours (ideally 24 hours) before massaging or rubbing the skin.
Do not rub or massage the treated area and avoid make-up if possible. Do not have any beauty treatments on your face e.g. facials, facial massage for 2 weeks- this may cause the injected solution to spread to nearby muscles.
The result will last 3 to 4 months. Unfortunately, massaging will not effect or speed up this process.
Botox Aftercare: Face Rubbing
You may be tempted to rub or massage the area of your Botox injection, but this is not advisable. Try to avoid any type of facial massaging for at least 24 hours following treatment.
To avoid spreading the toxin, don't touch your face for at least 1 day. Some doctors suggest waiting 3 days. If you got Botox in another part of your body, you should also avoid touching those areas. This includes professional massages on the treated areas.
Drooping eyelids
When Botox migrates to either the forehead or the area between the eyes, this can result in a droopy eyelid. One reason people choose Botox may be to reduce the appearance of forehead or vertical frown lines.
Botox can sometimes spread from the area where the injections are given. This can cause a serious condition called botulism. Botulism can occur hours, days, or even weeks after receiving a Botox injection.
After Botox is injected it is important not to rub or massage the area, this can cause the product to migrate. However, touching the area one time by accident should not cause any issues.
Answer: Botox migration
The botox can migrate either at the time of injection or for a little while afterwards. The effect may only come on after days to 2 weeks later as the botox starts to work. The greater the volume injected the greater the risk of migration.
Additional risks of Botox include a botched job if too much of the neurotoxin is used or injected in the wrong spot. Bad Botox might include a “frozen” or expressionless face, asymmetrical issues, or drooping. Thankfully, since Botox is temporary, any of these mishaps will eventually wear off.
After you get Botox, your doctor will caution you to avoid touching your face for at least the first 4 hours. Adding any pressure could cause the Botox to migrate from where it was injected. It's also recommended your avoid touching your face because the area might still be sensitive and prone to discomfort.
For the first few days after your BOTOX treatment, you can gently wash your face or apply lotions. You can use the same moisturizer and cleanser you always have, as they won't harm your results. However, facials, microdermabrasion, or any other kind of skin treatments should be avoided for at least a week.
The first “true” results will be noticeable within 24 to 48 hours – when you'll see a softening of wrinkles. Why does Botox need a couple days to start working? Botox freezes your muscles by stopping the release of acetylcholine. It takes awhile for your body to “use up” the acetylcholine that's already circulating.
Can I sleep on my side after having Botox®? Yes, provided you wait at least four hours before lying down. Botox® takes a few hours to settle into place, so lying down straightaway could cause it to migrate to other muscles in your face and increase the risk of complications.
More importantly, rubbing or massaging can cause the injected BOTOX to migrate to other parts of the face. Avoid lying down or bending over for several hours after the treatment to help prevent facial swelling and migration of the toxin. If possible, avoid lying down until bedtime.
Don't lie down for at least 3 hours after receiving Botox. Don't go into any saunas, hot tubs, or tanning booths for at least 4 hours. This helps to prevent bruising, because heat can raise your blood pressure. Otherwise, you can resume your regular activities right after getting Botox.
Yes, you can wash your hair and face after receiving Botox® injections. As said above you should avoid using anything which may irritate the puncture site for at least 6 hours after your treatment.
Why Do You Need To Avoid It? The risk of bruising following Botox is increased when the body or face gets too hot. In addition to avoiding hot tubs, saunas, and other similar places, do not take a hot bath or shower for at least 24 hours after having this treatment.
However, if your procedure involved having Botox in the face, you should sleep on your back. Botox requires time to settle into your muscles and lying on your face may prevent this. The good news is that you only need to avoid sleeping on your face for one night!
The body begins to form antibodies against the product. Eventually the antibodies will block Botox® from working, and the facial muscles will recover very rapidly. At that point, there is little point in getting further injections of Botox®. This resistance process typically takes months or years to complete.
Consistently high-stress levels can cause the body to break down Botox more quickly while speeding the aging process. Taking part in meditation, yoga, and other stress-relieving activities can help you maximize the life span of your Botox while reducing any stress-related aging.
The reason for this delay is due to the time it takes for the body to start reacting to the Botox after it's been injected. Because of this, we like to have our patients come back after two weeks to check on their progress.
