If you miss a dose of Simparica Trio, give it immediately and resume monthly dosing. Contact your vet if your dog misses a month or more of heartworm prevention—your dog might have become infected with heartworm larvae.
If a dose is missed, give SIMPARICA TRIO immediately and resume monthly dosing. When replacing a monthly heartworm preventive product, SIMPARICA TRIO should be given within one month of the last dose of the former medication.
Why is it important to never a miss a heartworm dose? The American Heartworm Society has recommended year-round heartworm protection, without missing a dose. A missed heartworm pill leaves your pet exposed to becoming infected, which can happen even in winter.
Many tick and flea medications are manufactured in a once-monthly topical application or pill formulations. If you miss that monthly dose, your pet is at a potential risk of getting flea or tick bites, which can transmit some serious diseases.

Simparica Trio must only be used when there is a need to treat both fleas or ticks and worms in the gut. For gut worms only a single treatment is required. For flea or tick infestations, one treatment with Simparica Trio is effective for up to 5 weeks.

As you can see, both Nexgard and Simparica are extremely good and effective flea and tick treatment and they do not have a major difference between them. But that being said, Simparica does kill an additional tick specie and is relatively faster in eliminating fleas and ticks.
No adverse effects were observed at the maximum exposure dose of 4 mg/kg. In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose.
