We may charge interest every day after the due date if you either: haven't repaid the money. haven't set up a payment arrangement. don't have a pause on your repayments.
If your Centrelink online account is linked to myGov, you can repay money online. To do this, sign into myGov and select Money you owe. You can also do this by using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app. If you need help to use the Money you owe service, you can use our online guides.
You can dispute the debt or ask for a waiver of the debt, and appeal to an independent tribunal if Centrelink will not change or remove the debt. However, there can be risks involved in appealing Centrelink debts. Centrelink may do more investigations and review the period of the debt and the amount of the debt.

A court cannot make you repay a debt from a Centrelink payment if you do not agree to do so. However, Centrelink and childsupport debts can be taken from you Centrelink payments. You need to also take into account any Court fines.

Urgent payments result in a lower subsequent payment on the recipient's usual payment delivery day (1.1. D. 55). Generally, a person can only receive a maximum of 2 urgent payments in any 12-month period.
Typically, Centrelink will send you a letter every six months or so with their understanding of your assets and income clearly listed. If your current financial reality doesn't match Centrelink's understanding of it, it's your responsibility to correct your details.
Once Centrelink has suspected a person has committed a Centrelink fraud, in conjunction with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), they may first invite the person for an interview or go to their house for investigation. Alternatively, they will launch an investigation into the matter without notice to the person.
Six Year Limitation Period
For most debts, a creditor must begin court action to recover the debt within six years of the date you: Last made a payment. Admitted in writing that you owe the money.
Your debt will go to a collection agency. Debt collectors will contact you. Your credit history and score will be affected. Your debt will probably haunt you for years.
