Hiding someone is not the same as blocking them. People you hide will not be notified and you will still be able to search for and chat with them. To unhide someone, visit Hidden contacts in your Messenger privacy settings. Note: For the best experience hiding contacts, update your Messenger app to the latest version.
If you restrict someone: You won't get notifications when they message you, and your phone won't ring when they call you. You won't be able to call or message them. You won't see your conversation with them in your Chats list.
Open Messenger. To delete someone from a group chat, simply tap the group. To remove a member from a group, click on their name in the member's list. Click on the "Remove from Group" option prominently shown on the screen.
Look for "This person is unavailable on Messenger" in the typing area. If you see this message in the area where you'd normally type a message, you are not blocked—the person has either deactivated their account, or the account was deleted by Facebook.
Blocking Someone on Android Messages and Apple iMessage
When you block a contact over Android or iPhone, they will still be able to send you text messages. These messages will not show up on your phone but the sender will see the messages as sent. They won't know that they've been blocked.
Instead of blocking a person, you can restrict them. This means the conversation is moved from your chat list and they can't see when you're active.
When you restrict someone on Messenger, you won't receive any notifications when the person sends a message. Your phone won't even ring when the recipient calls you on Messenger. You can't send a message or call the person either. You must unrestrict the person before sending a message (more on that later).
If you see only Public posts, that's one of the first signs that the person has restricted you. Next, go to the About section of their profile. If you can see only Public information on their About page as well, it's another signal that they have restricted you.
Make sure your device has enough storage. Close your Messenger app and restart your device. Make sure the person you're replying to hasn't deactivated or deleted their account. Make sure you haven't blocked the person you're replying to and they haven't blocked you.
Ignoring someone on Messenger moves the chat to your Spam folder so you won't be notified of replies.
It can cause emotional trauma.
A person who is ignored feels a wide range of confusing emotions. They may feel anger, sadness, frustration, guilt, despair, and loneliness, all at once. Naturally, such emotional confusion can have a damaging effect on your psyche.
To find out if someone has blocked you on Messenger, you should first send them a message. If your message is not delivered, even after the recipient has been online, you're most likely blocked. To tell if your message isn't delivered, it will have an empty circle with a check mark for an icon.
To create a secret conversation on Messenger, start a new chat and tap the lock icon. Messenger's secret conversations are encrypted, meaning not even Facebook can read them.
If they don't ask for your input in friendly discussions or show any curiosity about what you're thinking, it may mean they're trying to ignore you. They may try to skip over you when asking others about their day, avoid asking you how you feel about a decision, or even ignore you when you share your perspective.
Being ignored. Blocking signals that they are upset with you and are avoiding you. But if they ignore you it just feels like it's because they just don't care. With ignoring it's like hurtful indifference or just plain being cruel on purpose.
Ignoring is powerful because you take what they desire, away. Lowkey, this ends up turning into a form of revenge without you even trying to do so.
But here's the thing about blatantly ignoring someone: not only is it rude, immature, inconsiderate, cruel, and petty, it's downright emotionally (and sometimes physically) damaging. Ignoring someone is not an act of love. In fact, silent treatment qualifies as abuse.
Ignoring someone can be a powerful way to get their attention, especially if your presence alone is not enough to hold their interest. The silent treatment can be a painful and unpleasant experience, but it can be effective at capturing someone's attention and making them miss you.
Ignored messages do not show as delivered. You will receive and can even read the messages from the ignored conversation. However, Messenger will show it as only sent and not delivered on the chat screen.
