Spiritual distress can be experienced differently by different people. The signs and symptoms of spiritual distress include: Feelings of anger or hopelessness. Feelings of depression and anxiety.
The Bible makes it clear that the Holy Spirit does not indwell the unbeliever, for the Spirit comes only to those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. Romans 8:9 says, "You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the spirit of God dwells in you."
Graham: Only one sin that can't be forgiven is on God's list — and that is the sin of rejecting Him and refusing His offer of forgiveness and new life in Jesus Christ. The scriptures also describe the Holy Ghost as a “burning” in the bosom (see Doctrine and Covenants 9:8–9). But the intensity or degree of that “burning” can be different for everyone.
The voice of the Spirit is described in the scriptures as being neither loud nor harsh, not a voice of thunder, neither a voice of great tumultuous noise, but rather as still and small, of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it can pierce even the very soul and cause the heart to burn.
Blasphemy laws originated to punish nonbelievers
In the Bible, Leviticus 24:15–16 calls for the stoning of anyone who curses the God of Israel.
Blasphemy Thoughts: Blasphemy thinkers are those who constantly think that they would be punished for their sins. These people have thoughts arising in them that are against God, their beliefs, and their culture. These give them cause for severe anxiety.
In other words, the unpardonable sin is the refusal to accept salvation when it is offered by God at the time of death (i.e. final impenitence). Grace comes to us through the Holy Spirit and by rejecting that final grace, we sin against the Spirit. It is hard to imagine anyone refusing salvation, but it happens.
