If you've gotten your ear or nose cartilage pierced before, that type of piercing usually hurts more than a belly button piercing. You may experience some soreness and throbbing in the first few days, but it shouldn't interfere with your life significantly.
The anti-tragus piercing is located on the small, curved area of cartilage between your ear lobe and tragus. On the pain scale, the anti-tragus ranks at a 6-7/10 and, while attractive, is one of the most sensitive placements you can get. This piercing takes around 6-12 months to fully heal.
Most of our clients tell us there is little, to no pain and or that it feels like a little pinch or flick. Common piercing areas, like ear lobes, are low pain because there is no cartilage present. Areas with tougher cartilage like the nose can be a little more painful, but it's over in seconds!
Does a belly piercing hurt? Your belly piercing procedure will cause some slight pain like any other piercing, but because the skin on your stomach is fleshy and soft, it will be less painful than other piercings with thicker cartilage.
According to Niki, most people rate navel piercings as a four or five out of 10 on the pain scale. Pain is, of course, subjective and it really does depend on how well trained your piercer is. So it's always worth doing your research prior to your appointment to make sure you're in experienced hands.

In general, tattoos tend to hurt more than piercings because the needles used for tattoos are larger and go deeper into the skin than the needles used for piercings.
The most attractive spot for a piercing is the belly button. The least attractive is a tie between the nose and the nether regions.
Uncommon piercings may be more costly due to the fragile nature of the procedures. A few more uncommon piercings are eyeball piercings, dermal piercings (pictured to the left), corset piercings, some genital piercings, uvula piercings, bridge piercings, and anti-eyebrow piercings (the latter two are pictured above).
Along with the nostrils and belly button, the earlobes are the safest and most common body part to be pierced. The flesh of the earlobe heals well when the area is cleaned regularly and the piercing is done at the proper angle.
Does getting a belly button piercing look good? Yes, because it draws the eye in - AKA it makes you look leaner. It's simple science: the eye is drawn to the piercing so your stomach automatically looks flatter.
Sterilize the Area to Be Pierced
You can use ice cube to numb the area, however, it can tighten the skin, which can make piercing difficult.
Medical-grade stainless steel is the least likely to cause an allergic reaction. Other safe choices include gold (14 karat or higher), titanium, and niobium. The ring or stud you choose should have a shiny finish and be free of nicks, scratches, or rough edges.
Rook piercings are located in the cartilage at the uppermost part of the inner ear. The location does go through a thick bit of cartilage so it can be more painful and harder to heal than many other spots on the ear. The Rook is more in line with the Snug when it comes to pain and healing.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the left side was believed to be the female side, and right the masculine side. Some people use this as a reason to choose their facial piercings on the left side for females or right side for males. However, in modern culture, there really isn't a male or female side.
Pain and Healing Time
You may have some blood, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at first. It may be sore, tender, and red for up to 3 weeks. Pierced nostrils heal completely in about 2 to 4 months. A pierced septum heals in about 3 to 4 months.
You should avoid swimming for at least 24 hours after having a piercing, and ideally until it has healed properly. While it's still healing, it's important to keep the piercing dry as there's a risk of infection.
For at least the first 6-8 weeks of recovery, you should try to wear loose, flowing, or low-waisted clothing that doesn't sit tightly against your new piercing. Belly buttons also tend to trap lint and dirt, making dedicated navel piercing aftercare extremely important.
Belly Piercing:
Belly button piercings can take up to a year to heal completely. It's best to wait at least two weeks before swimming and avoid submerging the piercing in water for an extended period.
Make sure to get a full 7-8 hours of sleep on the night before your ear piercing appointment. Lack of sleep has been found to decrease your pain tolerance and can lead to intensified pain the following day. Being well-rested during your piercing session also helps boost immune function and supports the healing process.
It is not recommended that you work out immediately after you get your belly button pierced. You should wait for at least a few days, and perhaps much longer before you resume any of your usual workout routines.
The standard size for a navel piercing is 14 Gauge (aka 14G). You should never use a barbell thinner than 18G since a higher gauged needle presents more risk of rejection, tearing, and migration.
