Burnt hits are the result of powering an atomizer when there is no liquid or not enough on the wicks. Without liquid to vaporize, the coils start burning the wick, and the user essentially inhales burnt cotton.
If the coil is burning as you vape, it's not good, but if you stop when you get the burn, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Basically avoid burning the coil, and if you do, replace or rewick it.
Can you fix a burnt coil? Though burnt coils are best to be replaced as soon as possible, the good news is that you can get a little extra life from them whilst you wait for your new coils to arrive. First thing's first, remove your coils from your e-cig and let them soak in a bowl of hot water to loosen any residue.
It tastes something awful and dry hitting a coil too many times can actually make it so burnt that it permanently gives off that terrible taste. In order to avoid getting a dry hit, you have to keep your coil nice and wet. When e-cigs work like they should, this isn't a problem.

What is a Dry Hit When Vaping? Dry hits are when the cotton (or other wicking material) in your vape is not saturated with ejuice. This can either be down to a wicking issue, a coil being ran at too high of a wattage (or in need of being changed) or simply having an empty tank!
