When you add someone to your Restricted list, you'll still be friends with them on Facebook, but they'll only be able to see your public information (example: your posts and profile info you choose to make public) and posts you tag them in.
While people don't get any notification when someone restricts them, they can sense it by looking at your profile, as they won't be able to find any of your Private posts. This absence of private (i.e., friends only) posts and other indicators can help them guess that you've restricted them.
They will not know that they're on your restricted list. You will still be able to chat with them via Messenger and you'll see their posts in your News Feed as normal. Let's say you don't want your supervisor to see everything you post on Facebook, so you add him to your restricted list.
If you add your friends to the Restricted list, they will not be able to see your posts unless the privacy setting is set to Public or you tag them. This is a toned-down version of blocking people without them knowing you are restricting them.
When you block someone, you cannot tag them, and neither can they. But both of you can tag each other in the case of the Restricted list. And when you tag the restricted person, they will see the post even if the privacy setting is set to Friends.
When you restrict someone on Messenger, you won't receive any notifications when the person sends a message. Your phone won't even ring when the recipient calls you on Messenger. You can't send a message or call the person either. You must unrestrict the person before sending a message (more on that later).
If you restrict someone on Messenger, they won't be able to see when you're active or when you've read their messages. Additionally, their messages to you will go straight to your "Message Requests" folder, and you won't receive notifications for them.
When you add someone to your Restricted list, you'll still be friends with them on Facebook, but they'll only be able to see your public information (example: your posts and profile info you choose to make public) and posts you tag them in.
They won't be able to see when you're active on Instagram or when you've read their direct messages, but they can still see your posts and stories. Moreover, Instagram will not notify the other user that you have restricted them, so they won't be aware of the change unless they try to interact with your content.

The length of a temporary block by Facebook depends on the severity of the violation and the user's history on Facebook. It has been observed that a temporary block may last as little as a few hours, but could also last up to 30 days. There is currently no way to view the duration of the block.
