A simple breakdown: Type 1s are straight, Type 2s are wavy, Type 3s are curly, and Type 4s are coily. Easy, right? The sub-classifications of A to C are based on the width or diameter of your wave, curl, or coil. Type As have a wider pattern size, Type Bs medium, and Type Cs the smallest of the three.
Hair types are broken up into 4 main groups (1, 2, 3, and 4) and each group is further divided into three sub-categories. The numbers describe the shape of the hair and the letters descirbe the size (width or diameter) of the curls themselves. 1= Straight; 2= Wavy; 3= Curly; 4= Kinky. A= wide; B=medium; C=tight.
1B - Your hair is still very straight, but it has a very subtle wave and a slight bend at the end. It tends to be thicker than your friends with straight hair. 1C - Your hair tends to be coarser than others and will have more body. You can achieve a messier look easily but can experience flyaways and frizz.
We believe one of the reasons is that super-straight hair — also known as type 1a hair — is so rare. In fact, it's the rarest hair type. Only 2% of the world's population has 1a hair. It's mostly found in people of Asian descent.
2a – the most subtle curly hair pattern/type, a slight wave or kink to the hair. 2b is loose and bendy S-shaped strands but still more of a wave than a curl. 2c are more defined S-shaped curls which start from the root. It's also worth saying, type 2 wavy hair is not failed curls!
So if you're not sure which hair type you have, we're going to break down the differences super quickly. Though 1C hair is straight, it does have a slight wave pattern underneath. The main difference is that 1C tends to be more coarse and thick, whereas 2A is a bit more fine and flat.
A general observation across experiments was that straight hair was perceived as younger, healthier, and more attractive than wavy hair and darker shades (medium copper and brown) were perceived more positively than blonde hair.
According to the survey, the majority of men (42%) found blonde hair to be the most attractive. This was followed by brunette (36%), red (16%), black (5%), and gray (1%).
With the use of the ABC shampoo, conditioner and leave-in treatment, your hair will be rejuvenated. Regular use provides intensive care, reduces the degree of fragmentation, strengthens bonds of hair fibers, prevents frizziness, and makes your hair softer.
Following are the general characteristics of 1C hair: Look:Bends a bit from the midshaft to the ends and the extra body, though mostly has straight strands. Texture:Coarse to medium-coarse. Shine:Not as lustrous as 1A and 1B hair types.
Type 4c. 4c hair is the queen of thick, bold afros. From afar, 4c hair looks like a thick fro, but if you look closely, you'll notice very tight, small springs or coils on each strand. Coils are pretty different from curls.
Brunette was clearly the hair color perceived as most attractive, with blonde as the second most attractive, and red as the least attractive. Figure 1 summarizes these results.
CNN recently shared research that men are most likely to prefer women with long hair past the shoulders. Guys were asked to rate the same women's faces based upon short, medium-length, plus super long locks. Males rated ladies with longer hair as more attractive.
The rarest natural hair colour is red, which makes up only one to two percent of the global population. You commonly see these hair colours in western and northern areas of Europe, especially Scotland and Ireland. However, natural redheads may not exist for much longer.
Type 4 hair is the kinkiest hair type there is. When you think of afros, you're likely thinking of type 4 hair. Made up of a crazy amount of super tight curls, this hair type is the densest of all curl patterns. It's also more prone to shrinkage than Type 2 or Type 3 hair and may be much longer than it appears to be.
Thick (Coarse)
Thick or coarse hair texture is the strongest hair texture and typically feels coarse or thick to the touch. Coarse hair contains all three hair layers – the cortex, cuticle and medulla.
1C hair is incredibly soft and delicate. It's thick, but it tends to be coarse in texture. This makes 1C hair perfect for holding curls because it doesn't easily break or fray when wet or dry.
Coily Curls
The last, but most rare type of curl is the coily curl. This curl type is similar to that of an afro and when observed carefully, looks like the angular letter 'Z'. These curls require the most amount of moisture, as the hair type is much thicker than the other curl types.
Hair type and texture are determined by several factors, including genetics. The African hair is more coiled and drier; Asian hair (Korean, Japanese) is straighter and thicker; and Caucasian hair is somewhere in between with around 45% having straight hair, 40% having wavy hair, and 15% having curly hair.
Does 2A hair get frizzy? Though type 2A is easy to enhance, straighten, or curl, it also tends to frizz up fast due to less natural moisture within strands—and heat styling only makes the situation worse. Dawson says the best way to style 2A hair in order to minimize frizz is to let it air-dry as much as possible.
Then we get deeper into texture; 2a wavy hair, specifically, is really loose waves. Your waves are wide S-curves that can be straightened in a flash. Your texture may be described as “tousled.” You have very little volume at your roots and you've probably found that some products weigh down your hair.
Type 2a hair tends to lie flat at the roots and starts to form waves at eye-level. This gradual change in texture can make hair look inconsistent. The shape of these strands don't take on the slight curl pattern of 2c hair types nor do they have the definite wave texture of a 2b hair type.
