The 8 Shape has high hips that create a shelf. Think about a (naked) Barbie doll. Her tiny waist pops right out into her hips. No smooth transition from waist to hips. Another hint that you may be an 8 rather than an X: 8's are often short-waisted; there's not a lot of room between the ribcage and those high hipbones.
What you notice with an 8 shape is that there is a defined waist and then the hip comes out directly from just under the waist – at the high hip. and then it tapers around (sometimes with a hip dip) down to the thighs. You need to dress this shape quite differently from the X shape hourglass!
Top hourglass body shape
Considered to be the most attractive body shape, this is very similar to hourglass body shape, except that in this case the curves are more defined.
Apple Shape
Abdominal obesity is probably the most dangerous of all, and apple body shape is considered at the highest risk for health issues compared to the other body types. Larger waists can mean higher risk of heart disease. It can also mean higher risk of Type 2 diabetes.
What is the rarest body type? The hourglass body shape is the rarest body shape as it requires equal bust/shoulder and hip proportions with a dramatically smaller waist size. While this body type is frequently coveted, ideal body shapes are always changing and one body shape should never be looked at as superior.
It's not a dress size that is fat, it's a person. Dress size is neutral. US dress size 8 is a waist of 27 inches and hips of 38. If you happen to have a large bust compared to waist and hips, or large hips, dresses that fit your bust size won't fit your hips and vice versa.
Not mentioned much as a common body silhouette, however, the figure 8 body shape is quite common. It's similar to the hourglass and Oval (apple) shape, but usually refers to women with a larger bust than the typical oval, and slightly more rounded shoulders than the hourglass with the appearance of a shorter waist.
If the line from your hips to your shoulders is vertical (not angled in or out), and your waist is well defined, your body shape is an X or an 8.
Dressing a figure of eight:
Wrap dresses are great, especially those with a straight or tapered skirt. Sharp tailoring and waisted jackets are great for giving definition to curves. A peplum on a jacket or top is especially great for a figure of 8 as it accommodates the high hip.
Tall, slender and beautiful models are typically hired for high fashion. The British Association of Model Agents (AMA) explains that a female model's height should reach between 5'8” and 5'11” with a 6-8 dress size and a 34″-24″-34″ bust, waist and hip measurement. Anything above this is classed as plus-size.
A women's size 8 is not considered plus size, it is considered middle size. Middle sizes are size 6–12. They are the cutoff point for petite and plus size. A plus size person is size 14 and beyond.
“Straight” sizes refer to sizes small through large for women, or sizes 0-14.
Example: If you wear a US size 8 in women, you will be roughly a US size 6.5 in men. For fur boots, we recommend 1 size larger than what you measure.
As a general rule, plus-size models are defined by the fashion industry as anyone larger than a size 6. These days, however, most women deemed plus-size models are a size 12/14 or higher, bringing the industry's perception of what counts as plus-size a little more in line with that of the public.

Purpose. A figure of eight measurements of hand is used to measure the edema or swelling over the hand.
