'My Precious! O my Precious! ' And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far, toppled, wavered for a moment on the brink, and then with a shriek he fell. Out of the depths came his last wail precious, and he was gone.”
Bilbo: "Well, if I'm angry, it's your fault!" [caresses the ring] "It's mine! My own, my precious."
He calls the Ring “my precious.” It illustrates how completely the Ring has consumed him: it is a part of him, or perhaps more accurately, he is a part of it; the borders between it and himself are blurred if not erased. This is why he wants it back so desperately.
As Gollum understands it, his choice is between the ring, which he calls his “precious,” and Frodo, his “master.” In other words, he must choose between two things of value, both of which are worth more than he himself is.
Sam secretly gave names to these two sides of Sméagol: the pathetic, simpering side he called 'Slinker', but the jealous, dangerous side he gave an even worse name: Stinker. As Gollum's darker side took him over completely, so Sam started to use the name 'Stinker' as just another name for the scheming creature.
Dobby and Gollum are both fictional characters from popular fantasy series, but they are not related nor are they twins.
In The Lord of the Rings it is stated that he was originally known as Sméagol, corrupted by the One Ring, and later named Gollum after his habit of making "a horrible swallowing noise in his throat".
Throughout J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy series, the character is referred to both as Smeagol and Gollum, with each name holding separate significance: one is his birth name, while the other represents the monster he became, born out of lust and tragedy.
“It is not despair, for despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt. We do not.”
Bilba Labingi, the original Hobbitish name for "Bilbo Baggins".
Historyedit edit source. The very first Ring-bearer (besides Sauron) was the first to apply the term "precious" to the One Ring. In T.A. 2, Isildur, who had taken the Ring from Sauron, wrote a scroll in which he described what he claimed as an heirloom for the North Kingdom.
The most popular choices are: “Not all those who wander are lost.” — Bilbo Baggins. “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Here we go, the world is spinning. When it stops, it's just beginning. Sun comes up, we laugh and we cry. Sun goes down, and then we all die …
Aragorn is not half Elf, although he is a descendant of Elros, who is half Elf (and the brother of Elrond, the half-Elf who raised him), which explains why Aragorn's life span is unusually long.
The Elven Queen of Mirkwood, or Thranduil's wife, was a female Elf married to King Thranduil, therefore being the Queen of Greenwood as well as the mother of Legolas Greenleaf.
Thus, Galadriel's dark form in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings personified what would have occurred had the Lady of Lothlorien given in to temptation and taken the One Ring for herself. She would have succumbed to evil because the Ring was indomitable, even with her power.
Legolas was portrayed by Orlando Bloom. In the "official movie guide" for The Lord of the Rings, a birthdate for Legolas is set to 87 of the Third Age. This would make him 2931 years old at the time of the War of the Ring. This date for Legolas' birth was made up by the movie writers.
Gollum, originally named Sméagol (or Trahald), was at first a Stoor, one of the three early Hobbit-types. The name Gollum was derived from the sound of his gurgling, choking cough. His life extended far beyond his nature, by the effects of possessing the One Ring.
Sméagol (Gollum) is a single, 587 year old, hobbit-like male of no fixed abode. He has presented with antisocial behaviour, increasing aggression, and preoccupation with the “one ring.” Sméagol comes from a wealthy and influential family, his grandmother being a wise woman in the river folk community.
The contrast between Dobby and Kreacher in the Harry Potter novels couldn't be more stark. Advertisement. Dobby absolutely loves his new friends and seems to be an all-round nice elf (which really doesn't help us in dealing with what happens in book seven, Ms Rowling), while Kreacher is his polar opposite.
