None of this is true of Fives, and the two types are opposites in many ways. Nines are gentle, easygoing, patient, receptive, and accommodating, whereas Fives are intense, strong-minded, argumentative, contentious, and highly resistant to the influence of others.
Type Fives don't pair as well with Nines
Both types tend to go into their imaginary worlds to stay safe, making it difficult for them to connect.
Type 9, Peacemaker
Numb, drained, disconnected and checked out of life, they take on a zombie-like appearance, barely showing up as a functioning human being. They may fall into a depression. The dark side of Type 9s are usually sins of omission or apathy.
Confusing similar looking letters and words
The most common numbers for visual dyslexics to reverse are 9, 5 and 7. This was once thought to be caused by a visual processing difficulty but is now understood to be caused by a phonological deficit. Sometimes there is also directional confusion between left and right.
Many Nines are introverts, in truth. They need to be, to keep themselves insulated from a world where chaos is ever present. Even when they're social and active, a part of them are kept in reserve. They are likeable, steady, tolerant and optimistic, but don't ask a Nine about their real feelings.
Of the IF types, ISFJs are the most likely to embrace a black-and-white set of moral beliefs and standards, thus inspiring many to self-identify as Ones or Nines with a One wing (9w1).
Deepest Fear: Nines fear being too needy and thus pushing people away. They cope with this fear by submitting to the desires and agendas of the people around them: being agreeable in order to be included.
Type Seven and Nine is a common relationship combination on the Enneagram. While their energy often draws them in different directions, they can complement each other's blind spots well. The Nine helps to ground the Seven's exuberant energy and demonstrates how to focus on a single area and see it through.
Most people familiar with the Enneagram will say that either Introversion or Extraversion can exist in all nine of the types, but Type 5s are viewed as the classic Introvert and Type 7s are seen as the classic Extravert.
Summing it up. You can't be two Enneagram types — the type you match the most is your type for good. However, you may experience a shift within your type between the healthy, unhealthy, or general states of being.
While Nines will go out of their way to accommodate others and downplay their own needs, setting themselves up to be overlooked, Nines dislike being ignored. Many Enneagram Nines are unaware of their own passive aggressive behaviour patterns and how these affect others around them.
Weaknesses of the Enneagram 9
Having difficulties confronting other people. The tendency to minimize their feelings to avoid conflict. Avoidance behaviours when they find situations upsetting. Find themselves being passive-aggressive rather than facing their problems head-on.
Recognize anger
As part of the Body/Instinctive triad in the Enneagram, Type 9s have a sensitive issue around anger. They subconsciously deny and under-express it, and it often comes as a surprise to Type 9s that they have unprocessed anger. They often don't recognize this.
Nine: A Six and Nine pairing is one of the most common couples. Both types are reliable and crave stability. Nines can also help Sixes be more optimistic and trusting of other people.
Enneagram Nine Friendship Needs
Easy-going and accepting, Nines are peace-loving friends who give others the space to be themselves without judgment. At the same time, it's vital for Nines to have friends who see them for who they are rather than using them for their gentleness and compassion.
Enneagram 9s in Grief and Loss
Since 9s are in the gut/body triad, anger is more likely to flare up especially if there is any sense of not being heard or conflict involved. They may easily dip into the negative type 9 traits such as being indecisive, passive aggressive, and forgetful.
INTJs are typically very quiet and reserved unless they happen to meet someone who, like them, loves exploring theoretical concepts, analyzing possibilities, and dreaming up long-term goals. That said, they're not typically very verbal when it comes to discussing their feelings or people's personal lives.
Of all of the introvert personality types on the MBTI, the INTP tends to be the most introverted. They tend to be thoughtful, quiet, and very reserved around others.
Type Five is sometimes called The Observer. They tend to be introverted and shy, and less expressive emotionally than other types. They focus their attention on thinking, on interesting intellectual pursuits and interests, and creating boundaries to maintain privacy.
Type Nines commonly pair well with Ones, Twos.
Type Nines are known as the Peacemakers in the Enneagram. Reassuring and harmonious, Nines are supportive to a fault, their conflict-averse nature may cause them to minimize and simplify problems.
(When Nines are highly intelligent, they can be as brilliant as Fives, although their intellectual prowess is compartmentalized. They are brilliant at work but unfocused and inattentive everywhere else, whereas Fives are focused and attentive everywhere all the time.)
Nines are like a safe harbor, a respite, a person with whom Eights can let down their guard and relax. They tend therefore to teach each other what the other lacks: Eights bring Nines self-confidence and self-assertion, while Nines teach Eights which battles are worth fighting for and how not to push so hard.
The most basic desire of the Enneagram Type 9 is to have internal peace. Nines strive to be in harmony with themselves and the world around them. Peacekeepers defend themselves by ignoring pain or numbing their internal conflicts through food, television, and other repetitive patterns.
18. You get jealous or envious when you're unhappy. A sad reality is that of an Enneagram 4: they will feel unhappy until they learn to make their own happiness. Type 4s feel unable to achieve satisfaction on their own, so they seek and search through their unique traits and talents.
Sixes are one of the most anxiety-prone types of the Enneagram and tend to overreact when under stress. Identifying what triggers an overreaction as well as finding space to process their thoughts in the aftermath of a crisis is crucial for their mental health and general well-being.
