Abstract. Successful mate poaching is a form of infidelity that occurs when one partner knowingly attracts the mate of another with the intention of starting a sexual and/or romantic relationship with this individual. Relationships formed from poaching tend to be of lower quality than their non-poached counterparts.
[transitive, intransitive] poach (somebody/something) (from somebody/something) to take and use someone or something that belongs to someone or something else, especially in a secret, dishonest, or unfair way The company poached the contract from their main rivals.
Some of these relationships are short-lived (e.g., one-night stands); however, others last significantly longer, with estimates suggesting that 63% of men and 54% of women have been successfully poached for a long-term relationship (Schmitt & International Sexuality Description Project, 2004).
Poachers report higher disagreeableness, lower conscientiousness (i.e., not caring for or thinking of the feelings of others; Schmitt & Buss, 2001), and less concern for others' well-being (Sunderani et al., 2013).
Tactics in mate poaching
For men this includes using humour, being generous or giving compliments, whereas for women, in the short-term mate poaching may include providing easy sexual access and for a long-term mate poaching, might include overtly mentioning seeking a replacement mate (Schmitt & Shackelford, 2003).
Gender differences in mate poaching.
Similarly, women were more likely to report that their current relationship was a result of them poaching their partner away from a past relationship. These last two results suggest instead that women are more likely to poach.
Properties of Poaching
There are two types of poaching: shallow and deep. No mystery here: in shallow poaching, a bed of aromatics (onions, carrots, celery, herbs etc) is used to keep the food off the bottom of the pot, and then liquid is added to partially cover. In deep poaching, the food is completely submerged.
Mate poaching is a term used to describe when an individual tries to pursue someone who is already in a committed, monogamous relationship.
People who poach do so for a variety of reasons, including for food, pleasure, medicines, leather, trophies, bones, and more.
While it is established that about half of all marriages end in divorce, it is commonly assumed that the breakups are initiated by both genders equally. In fact, it is surprising to most people that women are actually more likely to end their marriages than men.
Poaching can be a serious threat to many wild species, particularly those protected in wildlife preserves or national parks. Many animal species have been limited in range or depleted in numbers, sometimes to the point of extinction, by the depredations of market hunters and unregulated sportsmen.

The company authorised its staff to poach customers from the opposition. The opposition parties complained that the government had poached their ideas. Poach the eggs for 4 minutes. He had a light breakfast of poached eggs and tea.
Poaching and overfishing threaten endangered species and can result in species extinction. Furthermore upending the homeostasis of these ecosystems will result in additional species extinctions. This will throw ocean ecosystems out of balance and humans will potentially lose a primary food source.
Why animals are poached. Poachers sometimes kill or capture animals to sell them locally or for the global trade in wildlife. Wildlife trading is a major black market that has increased alongside rising wealth in Asia—a major consumer of wildlife—and the advent of e-commerce and social media websites.
This is likely because the poacher is prone to experience lower self-esteem and pursue the target for the thrill of the chase and achievement, while the partner who was poached is likely to experience distrust given that the relationship originated due to infidelity in their previous relationship, from which they may ...
It is run by criminal networks with a wide, international reach. Some also traffic illegal drugs, arms and even people. Poaching and wildlife trafficking also undermines sustainable development and community livelihoods and safety, posing related challenges around law enforcement, poverty and economic opportunities.
Broadly, emotional infidelity describes a situation in which an individual in a relationship develops an important emotional connection with someone other than their partner, in a way that crosses a line without necessarily becoming physical.
What Is Infidelity? Infidelity, or cheating, is the act of being unfaithful to a spouse or other partner. It typically means engaging in sexual or romantic relations with a person other than one's significant other, breaking a commitment or promise in the act.
#1: The Pangolin
Because Pangolins are so unique, they are frequently poached. They're also considered to be useful, which is another reason. This animal has meat that is in high demand, and its scales are used in medicine. The result is that this is the most highly trafficked animal on the entire planet.
The key to proper poaching is to make sure your liquid's not too hot. Unlike braising, where you're looking for a vibrant simmer, poaching liquid should be just shy of that. You should see tiny, tiny bubbles on the bottom of your pot or around the edge of the pan, but no bubbles should break the surface.
