A boxer who is hit with an accidental low blow has up to five minutes to recover. If the foul results in an injury that causes the fight to end immediately, the boxer who committed the foul is disqualified.
Rounds in men's professional boxing matches last for three minutes. Currently, women's bouts are shorter - with two minute rounds.

The only method of attack is punching with a clenched fist and you may not strike below the belt, in the kidneys or the back of your opponents head or neck. You cannot use the ropes for leverage. You cannot hit an opponent when they are down. A boxer hit with a low blow can take five minutes to recover.

Method of counting over a boxer who is down. (1) The referee shall give an injured boxer a count of eight when a knockdown occurs. The referee does not have to continue to count if in the referee's opinion a boxer is unable to continue to box.
A standing eight count, also known as a protection count, is a boxing judgment call made by a referee during a bout. When invoked, the referee stops the action and counts to eight. During that time, the referee will determine if the boxer can continue.

If a boxer is knocked down or hurt enough to prompt a standing count from the referee, that fighter loses a point. So, if a boxer dominates a round, controlling and landing better punches throughout and also knocks their opponent down, the end result is a 10-8 round.
Why do boxers use Vaseline during a fight? Most boxers will find themselves battered and bleeding after a few rounds in the ring. Vaseline mixed with coagulant can be applied to the open wounds to limit the amount of blood that is lost. The coagulant slows the bleeding and the Vaseline protects the damaged area.
