Don't let their pink noses and thick, soft fur fool you: Australia's 'native cats' aren't much like cats at all.
The tiger quoll (Dasyurus maculatus), also known as the spotted-tail quoll, the spotted quoll, the spotted-tail dasyure, native cat or the tiger cat, is a carnivorous marsupial of the quoll genus Dasyurus native to Australia.
Its coarse fur is a grizzled brown colour, fading to buff underneath. The quokka is known to live for an average of 10 years. Quokkas are nocturnal animals; they sleep during the day in Acanthocarpus preissii, using the plants' spikes for protection and hiding. Quokkas have a promiscuous mating system.

There are 14 identified species, including the forest, small-spotted and large spotted genet, according to the African Wildlife Foundation. The website said: "Genets are long, lean carnivores that appear catlike with a tail usually as long as (if not longer than) the body."
Commonly called civet cats, civets are not cats. In fact, they are more closely related to mongooses than they are to cats. In Singapore, the Common Palm Civet is one of the species of civet that can be seen. Civets are commonly known as 'Musang' in the Malay Language.
So what are some notable members of the cat family? You're probably familiar with Tigers, Lions and Leopards, but the extended cat family also includes other notable animals such as the Eurasian Lynx, Cougar, Cheetah, Ocelot and the Margay.
