I am adamant about getting enough iodine and selenium in my diet because I present with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Eggs are easy and quick, but for variety, I make breakfast tacos using eggs, organic cheese, shredded cabbage and Siete Taco Shells.
What is a good breakfast for people with hypothyroidism? Eggs are a healthy breakfast for people with hypothyroidism. Eggs are a lean protein containing iodine and selenium—nutrients necessary for thyroid health. Pair with toast and sliced avocado for a nutrient-dense, satisfying breakfast.
Choose the right cereals like whole grain cereals over refined varieties. Complex carbs are loaded with fibre and provide a vital nutrient selenium for the thyroid hormones to function efficiently. Cereals like quinoa, finger millet, red and brown rice can be easily added to the daily regimen.
I always make sure they are eating small quantities from high quality sources such as sourdough bread. Sourdough has much lower concentrations of gluten than normal bread because the leavening process breaks down a lot of the gluten.
Paleo or Autoimmune Paleo
Grains, dairy, potatoes, beans, lentils, refined sugar, and refined oils are not allowed. Cage-free and grass-fed meats are encouraged, as are vegetables, nuts (except peanuts), seeds, seafood, and healthful fats, such as avocado and olive oil.
Dairy products include yoghurt, buttermilk, kefir, cottage cheese, curd cheese and rennet cheese (which includes yellow cheese). These products, including milk, despite their high nutritional value, contain substances, which can potentially worsen the wellbeing of people with Hashimoto's disease.
Fruits. Berries, pears, apples, peaches, citrus fruit, pineapple, bananas, etc. Non-starchy vegetables. Zucchini, artichokes, tomatoes, asparagus, carrots, peppers, broccoli, arugula, mushrooms, etc.
Coconut milk is the best non-dairy milk alternative. It is AIP-friendly. Oat, hemp seed, almond, flaxseed, and cashew milks are not AIP-compliant because they come from nuts and seeds. Still, they are a better option than cow's milk to heal your gut and reduce symptoms.
However, people with Hashimoto's disease or other types of autoimmune thyroid disorders may be sensitive to the harmful side effects of iodine. Eating foods that have large amounts of iodine, such as kelp, dulse, or other kinds of seaweed, or taking iodine supplements may cause hypothyroidism or make it worse.

They are natural sources of flavonoids and antioxidants. Bananas also contain selenium, which is quite rarely found naturally in fruits. Around 100 to 150 grams of bananas daily are perfect for proper thyroid function. Additionally, bananas also help with constipation which is a significant sign of hypothyroidism.
Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and hazelnuts are excellent sources of selenium, which helps support healthy thyroid function. Pack a small bag of assorted nuts to snack on throughout the day. Fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and selenium, which both help decrease inflammation.
Best Foods for Hashimoto's Disease
Foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as whole and lightly processed fruit, vegetables and whole grains, contribute to less inflammation. Unsaturated fats and sources of lean protein also play key roles in an anti-inflammatory eating plan.
In addition, the trace mineral selenium is essential for proper thyroid function and has been beneficial in the treatment of Hashimoto's, so it's typically recommended to include healthful sources of selenium—such as Brazil nuts, fish, brown rice and eggs—into your diet.

There is some evidence that caffeine can, in fact, help moderate your immune system² and thus might help with any autoimmune disease, including Hashimoto's. The jury is still out, but, at least, there is enough evidence that consuming caffeine will not make Hashimoto's worse.
People with Hashimoto's who have a sensitivity to casein and whey proteins (the two proteins found in dairy products) will need to eliminate all dairy, including milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter, and certain protein powders.
Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage, are full of fiber and other nutrients, but they may interfere with the production of thyroid hormone if you have an iodine deficiency.
Oats are packed with powerful antioxidants, which can reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of thyroid-related autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto's disease. They contain polyphenols that can help reduce oxidative stress, which can otherwise cause organ damage.
