If you have hooded eyes the aim is to open them up and draw focus to the outer corners. To do this, draw a narrow line one third into your eye, then attach a thick vertical wing to the outer corner. A key tip for hooded eyes is to use a fast-drying eyeliner with a precision tip to have more control.
There are so many types of eyeliners out there - gel, liquid, felt, pencil and powder. You'll have to trial a few to find the easiest formula that suits your skin best, but I personally LOVE and highly recommend felt tip liners. They're the best eyeliner for hooded (and oily) eyes, and they're so easy to use.
When thinking about wearing eyeliner, focus on the outer corner of your eyes. Using eyeliner or a dark-coloured eyeshadow in this area will make hooded eyes look wider and bigger, which helps conceal the hoodedness.
When you have very little space on the mobile lid, doing a thick eyeliner line will look like you have black all over. This is, of course, a look in itself, but not a very flattering one when you have droopy eyelids. Instead, try doing a very thin line, starting from the outer half of your lid.
Hooded eye shapes can sometimes appear weighed-down or turned-down, making you look sleepy. By directing your eyeliner wing upward and outward, you can balance out your hooded shape and create the appearance of a more awake-looking eye shape.
Many mature women find that while they may have loved a bold black liner in the past, it doesn't suit them the same as it once did, and prefer to opt for softer shades like brown or charcoal. (You can find these shades from Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eye Pencil.)
Ditch liquid liners
Thick black lines don't do any woman over 35 any favours as it makes eyes that are already getting smaller with age look even tinier. And the rock-chick look is too harsh for ageing skin tones, so switch to brown or charcoal-grey.
Hooded eyes are often an inherited feature which gets worse with age. With age, the skin on the upper lid loses its elasticity, and becomes baggy.
If all else fails, use lighter colors on your inner corners, and darker colors on your outer corners. By just remembering this simple trick, you'll add a lot of dimension to your hooded eyes, making them appear bigger and brighter.
Enhance hooded eyelids by using light shades on your center lids and blending dark shades in the outer corner of your eyes. For a more dramatic eye look, create a cut crease, which uses lighter shades on the eyelid and darker shades along the crease.
With drooping eyelids, we need to take special care in selecting the right colors for the eye shadows. Invest in some light to medium shades, dark shades make the eyes look more tired and aged. Stick to neutrals, browns, taupe and other light shades.
With hooded eyes, the drooping skin may cover all or part of the eyelid, leaving a crease. Carefully applying makeup can help open up the appearance of the eyes, but if this does not achieve the desired effect, doctors may recommend a procedure called blepharoplasty.
Having a mixture of colors in your eyeshadow palette will help you to apply shadow and light in an effective way on hooded lids. You'll want to pick shimmery lid shades that reflect light well, lighter matte crease shades and darker matte shades to help add depth and dimension to the eye.
Dab a pearly powder shadow on the inner corner of your eyes to brighten the shadows cast by heavy lids. 6. Curl your lashes, which helps the eyes look more open. Apply two coats of black mascara (or, like our model, false lashes) to enhance the wide-eyed effect.
