Laser eyelid tightening with the fractional Candela CO2 laser is the only effective non-surgical solution for removing excess skin on the eyelids. Before looking into how this laser works and the results it achieves, we would like to share the wonderful experience of our patient, Daniela.
Purpose: Laser resurfacing, performed at the same time as blepharoplasty, has most commonly been applied to the lower eyelid skin but can effectively be used on the upper eyelid to reduce rhytidosis and improve skin quality.
Blepharoplasty might be an option for: Baggy or droopy upper eyelids. Excess skin of the upper eyelids that partially blocks peripheral vision. Excess skin on the lower eyelids.
Sagging of the upper eye lid can disturb your sight. After 2-3 treatments with the CO2 laser we can now tighten your upper eye lids without surgery.
Laser eyelid surgery is a procedure performed on the eyelids with a laser instead of incisions. The laser “cuts” just as a scalpel would, but the difference is that the laser cauterizes the blood vessels — which means much less bleeding, a faster procedure, and reduced risk of scarring.
An appropriate surgical grade (not aesthetic grade) CO2 or Erbium YAG laser must be used to safely and effectively perform the procedure. Aesthetic grade CO2 lasers give too much heating of the skin and therefore must be used on very low power.
Because the laser is used to make incisions and remove tissue, the procedure is less invasive than traditional blepharoplasty, which means that there is less bleeding, swelling, and bruising. The use of the laser also results in more precise incisions, which can lead to a more natural-looking result.
The ablative fractional laser and non-ablative Fraxel laser can both be administered to aid in the ablative resurfacing of the lower eyelid, with the Fraxel laser posing optimal treatment and comparatively no resulting posttreatment complications for rejuvenating the periorbital skin.
Surgical grade CO2 or Erbium YAG laser needs to be used since aesthetic grade lasers involve high heating but low power. This is not ideal for sufficient skin contraction. It is best to work with a surgeon that makes use of advanced CO2 or Erbium YAG laser.
Why choose laser resurfacing for droopy eyelids? Laser resurfacing can provide dramatic results. It also heats the layers underneath to promote collagen production, which stimulates skin in the treatment area to heal in a smoother, more even appearance.
Botox is ideal for mild cases. It can make the upper eyelids less droopy, as well as help reduce skin folds around the eye area. Just do take note that it can take about 14 days to see the full effects. The results are not permanent; they last between three and six months, or longer with touch-up treatments.
A highly-effective way to tighten eyelid skin without surgery and any negative side-effects is to target the dermal layer using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).
Adding a dermal filler to the area can provide a lift to the eyebrows and decrease droopiness. In this scenario, filler is most often added to the temples and in between the brows, to smooth the area and temporarily lift the eyelids.
Unlike the traditional method, laser blepharoplasty is known to cause less discomfort, bruising, and swelling around the lower and upper eyelids.
If you opt for upper eyelid correction, you can expect your results to last for roughly five to seven years.
“Patients may have a false sense of security that IPL will not cause damage to the eye, but this is not true,” Dr. Lee said. “Although IPL is light therapy, it has the same potential to damage the eye as laser.”
Lower eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty removes the excess fat and tissue around the eyes to tighten the skin on this area. Sometimes, the dermatologist suggests supplementing eyelid surgery with another procedure to improve the results.
A lower eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is an outpatient procedure where the surgeon readjusts the fat in the lower eye area and tightens the muscle and skin to create a smooth appearance. In most cases, a lower eyelid lift gets rid of under-eye bags for life — it's rare for people to need future touch-ups.

SBK Advanced LASIK is the most advanced form of laser vision correction surgery. It treats common vision conditions such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism.
Disadvantages. CO2 lasers are very sensitive machines. The mirrors that focus the laser require realignment if they get knocked out of place. The realignment must be done by a specialist, which can be an expensive ordeal.
