Causes of deaths for 50 to 69 year olds
This visualization shows the causes of deaths of those who died between the age of 50 and 69. In 50 to 69 year olds, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are strongly dominant — here cardiovascular disease, cancers, respiratory disease and diabetes are the top causes.
Suicide was the biggest killer of young men aged under 25 in the country, while the number of suicides in the capital jumped by an alarming 46% over a five-year period, latest figures show.
Some men develop depression, loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and other physical and emotional symptoms when they reach their late 40s to early 50s. Other symptoms common in men this age are: mood swings and irritability.
Suicide is the biggest killer of people under the age of 35 and the biggest killer of men under the age of 50.
The leading causes of death among adults aged 25-44 years in 2020 were unintentional injury, COVID-19, heart disease, cancer, suicide, and homicide.
In the United States in 2019, the death rate was highest among those aged 85 and over, with about 14,230 men and 12,666 women per 100,000 of the population passing away. For all ages, the death rate was at 911.7 per 100,000 of the population for males, and 829 per 100,000 of the population for women.
Coronary artery disease causes most cases (80%) of sudden cardiac death. In people who are younger, congenital (since birth) heart defects or genetic abnormalities in their heart's electrical system are often the cause. In people age 35 and older, the cause is more often related to coronary artery disease.
Accidents, known as unintentional injury, become the leading cause of death throughout childhood and early adulthood. In middle and late adulthood cancer and heart disease become the leading killers.
Sixty-six per cent of deaths registered in Australia in 2020 were among people aged 75 or over (60% for males and 73% for females). The median age at death was 79 years for males and 85 years for females (Table S2. 1).

Accidents are the leading cause of death for people aged 25-44, followed by suicide and cancer. For those 65 and older, the top causes of death are roughly the same as the top causes of death for the overall population (heart disease and cancer).
The world average age of death is a few years lower at 68.9 years for men and 73.9 years for women. Within the European Union, these are 77.7 and 83.3 years respectively. Birth rate and death rate are given in births/deaths per 1,000 inhabitants within one year. The table shows the official data from the year 2021.
In males between the ages of 45 and 85, it is cancer. Once men reach 85 years old, heart disease is the most common cause of death.

Accidents. Better safe than sorry is an important adage as accidents are the leading cause of death in this age group. Knowing that 22% are from auto accidents is another cause for concern.
Do men over 50 fall in love? Yes, they can. But whether or not they act on those feelings is a different story altogether. Blame it on the baggage of the past or having been off the dating scene for far too long, men over 50 may struggle with expressing their interest in someone new.
