"Cap" is a slang term that originated in the United States and is commonly used in African American Vernacular English (AAVE). It means to lie or to make a false statement.
In Black slang, to cap about something is "to brag," "to exaggerate," or "to lie" about it. This meaning of cap dates back to the early 1900s.
Some common synonyms of lie are equivocate, fib, palter, and prevaricate. While all these words mean "to tell an untruth," lie is the blunt term, imputing dishonesty.
