Sustaine® Blue Gel is an incredibly powerful during procedure numbing product. When used after outlining a tattoo, during permanent makeup application, electrolysis, microblading or other sensitive skin procedures to desensitize the area for completion of work.
It will keep skin numb for up to 2 hours and should only be applied once during tattoo, permanent makeup, piercing, or other pain-sensitive procedures.
Blue Gel (for use on the skin) is used to provide temporary relief of minor arthritis pain, backache, muscles or joint pain, or painful bruises. There are many brands and forms of menthol available. Not all brands are listed on this leaflet. Blue Gel may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
The active ingredient in tattoo numbing cream is lidocaine. The maximum over-the-counter strength is 5%, but some creams contain 4% lidocaine. If you're sitting for a very large or intricate piece, the numbing sensation will likely wear off before the end of the tattoo session.

If you'd like more pain relief, feel free to apply a very thin layer of anesthetic cream to the tattoo once or twice daily. Make sure you wash the cream off after 20 minutes.
In some cases, it can make the tattoo harder to produce, if not impossible altogether–as numbing cream pulls the blood supply away from the area, making it harder to tattoo effectively, as it becomes greasy, flabby and otherwise a hard surface to use.
