Former Karate Kid bad-boy Johnny Lawrence, the protagonist of Cobra Kai, forms his own dojo under the name, you guessed it, COBRA KAI, logo and slogan “Strike Hard, Strike First, No Mercy” (all aforementioned “Cobra Kai IP”).
“Never mind your past mistakes; don't let them determine your future.” Cobra Kai fans have so many reasons to love Netflix's spinoff of The Karate Kid.
The banner on the right reads, "karate musente" (空手無先手) which translates to, "karate no first punch" or, put in Miyagi terms, "Karate is for defense." So that lines up with what Miyagi said back in The Karate Kid Part II.
Cobra Kai is the name of the school, not the style. The Kai in Cobra Kai literally means “assembly” or “meeting” and within the Karate vernacular, it's a suffix that denotes an organization or group. Cobra is just a name, the school mascot.
Extensive displays of underage drinking, excessive references to sex, sexual situations, racial inuendoes, and strong language make this totally inappropriate for children under 16.
In Japanese, kai has a number of meanings, including "ocean" (海), "shell" (貝), "open" (開), "restoration" and "recovery". In Māori, kai means "food" or "meal". In Northern Ireland, data indicated that Kai experienced a significant rise in popularity as a male given name from 2002 to 2003.
Miyagi was born on June 9, 1925, in Tomi Village Okinawa, Japan. He had a job working for his best friend Sato's father, who was the richest man in the village. In addition, he learned karate and fishing from his father Miyagi Chōjun, a fisherman.
In The Karate Kid (1984), Mr. Miyagi refers to Okinawa as "[his] country". Technically, this is incorrect because Okinawa is now a part of Japan, and has been since 1879. However, Okinawa was independent for centuries prior to becoming a part of Japan.
Why does Mr Miyagi call Daniel "Daniel-san"? How does the movie end?
Martin Kove on Twitter: "But remember… Cobra Kai NEVER dies! - John Kreese https://t.co/MOqoqzZ73b" / Twitter.
Kreese : Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it? Karate Class : NO, SENSEI! Kreese : Pain does not exist in this dojo, does it? Karate Class : NO, SENSEI!
Demonstrating the lesson. To never wait for the enemy to attack. The Cobra Kai teacher then teaches the meaning of Strike First: That to strike first, you must know how to strike.
Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) is almost always drinking Coors Banquet Beers in Cobra Kai. Given its prominence in some '80s action movies, it makes sense that this would be Johnny's favorite.
Mr. Miyagi is a guarded man, so most of what we know about his personal life comes from one stirring scene. Drunk on sake in remembrance of the anniversary of his wife's death, Miyagi recalls his days as a soldier in WWII. He fought for the American army, an Okinawan against Japan.
While you might not know Fumio Demura's name, you've undoubtedly seen a version of him in film. He's known as the real-life Mr. Miyagi, as The Karate Kid star Pat Morita based the iconic character on him.
The team behind Cobra Kai made the decision to go all the way to Okinawa for a week of filming during Season 3, making this Daniel LaRusso's first real trip to Okinawa. The landscape scenes between Daniel and Chosen by themselves were apparently filmed there.
Mr. Miyagi, played by Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, was even on the movie poster, his face in profile equal to Ralph Macchio's. Morita was Japanese and my family was Vietnamese but back then, that made no difference. We Asians were in this thing—racist America—together.
53 Years Old
What's even more surprising is that Macchio is actually five months older than actor Thomas Ian Griffith, who played Terry Silver in the third Karate Kid movie, reprises his role in Cobra Kai. That said, Daniel LaRusso is 53 years old in the show, and Macchio is 61.
Kung fu is one of the most identifiable cultural signs of China. Apart from China's kung fu, there are similar styles of martial arts, such as Japan's karate and Korea's taekwondo, which are often confused.

Kai is a gender-neutral name of Welsh origin, with roots worldwide, including in Greece and Scandinavian countries. Kai means "keeper of the keys and earth," making it a grounding choice for a parent laying down foundations with baby.
Kai as a stand-alone name is used for both boys and girls in Hawaiian. Can also be used as a shortening of Kailani as a previous poster mentioned (and which is traditionally feminine), or for Kaimana, Kainoa, and Kaipo which are all more or less unisex. Kailani nickname Kai is lovely! I also know a female Kay.
