The Carer Allowance is a fortnightly payment to carers of someone with a severe disability or illness or who is frail aged to assist with the additional costs of caring on top of their usual costs of daily living. Everyone on the Carer Payment will automatically receive the Carer Allowance.
The Carer Allowance is a supplementary payment that may be available in recognition of the care you provide. It can be paid in addition to the Carer Payment or another pension or benefit or if you do not receive any other benefits.
Carer Allowance is $144.80 fortnightly. To get this payment you and the person you care for will need to meet some rules. Read more about if you can get it.
The current rate of Carer Allowance is $131.90 per fortnight. It can be paid for up to two adults over 16 in your care. Care and Attention is care that is required daily for a minimum of 12 months unless the care receiver is an adult with a life expectancy of 3 months or less.
The Work Bonus income bank is useful for pensioners who wish to work, particularly those who undertake intermittent or occasional work. Note: from 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023, a one-off, temporary credit of $4,000 applies to Work Bonus income bank balances.
A payment if you give constant care to someone with disability, medical conditions, or an adult who's frail aged. This payment can help you if you provide constant care to someone for at least 6 months. You can start your claim at any time, you don't need to wait 6 months before you start your claim.
There's no assets test for Carer Allowance but there's an income test. To get this payment your and your partner's combined adjusted taxable income must be less than $250,000 per financial year. This amount is before tax. There's no income test for the person you care for.
Does Centrelink back pay the carer payment? Carer Allowance claimants will no longer be able to have their payment backdated up to 12 weeks prior to contacting Centrelink about the payment.
The Carer Payment is paid at the same rate as the Age Pension and is subject to the pension income and assets tests. You are also eligible to receive the pension supplement and energy supplement. Carer Payment recipients are also automatically entitled to the Pensioner Concession Card.
You cannot get Carer's Allowance if you share the care of someone and the other carer is already claiming: Carer's Allowance for that person.
Even if you don't receive a payment of Carer's Allowance due to overlapping benefit rules, entitlement to it allows you to get an extra amount, called 'Carer's Premium or Addition', as part of other benefits, so you should still make a claim.
Carer's Allowance Supplement is an extra payment, administered by Social Security Scotland, for people already getting Carer's Allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The payment recognises the important contribution of unpaid carers across Scotland.
If you're a pensioner currently receiving support through Centrelink, you may be eligible for extra help with bills and medicine costs through the Pension Supplement. This supplement is a combined payment of Pharmaceutical Allowance, Utilities Allowance, GST Supplement and Telephone Allowance.
Carer Payment (CP) is made to someone providing constant care at under award wages to a person with a sufficiently severe disability in their home. The carer could be a family member or a friend, and they may or may not normally be resident in the home of the person with disability.
This payment is for those who, due to their caring responsibilities, are unable to support themselves through substantial paid employment. Carer Payment recipients can engage in employment or study for up to 25 hours per week (including travel time) and remain eligible for payment.
How long will my claim take to process? If you provide all the necessary information when you lodge the claim, you should receive a response from Centrelink within 12 weeks of lodging.
If you're getting an eligible payment you'll get Carer Supplement between 5 July and 1 August 2023. To get Carer Supplement, you need to get an eligible payment for a period that includes 1 July. We'll pay you Carer Supplement for each eligible person you care for. You don't need to do anything to get this payment.

Carer's Allowance Supplement in 2023 is £270.50 – this is paid twice a year. The first payment will be in June 2023. You'll get this if you were eligible for Carer's Allowance on 10 April 2023. The second payment is in December 2023.
A payment to help students with the cost of moving from regional or remote areas for tertiary study. The Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) is a one off payment of up to $5,000. It's to help eligible students with the cost of moving to study. This is for study after you've finished year 12 or equivalent.
Carer Supplement is an annual payment of $600 for each eligible payment you get. You'll get this on top of your regular payment.
