Tare weight: This is the weight of an empty vehicle with all of its fluids but with only 10 litres of fuel in the tank. Gross vehicle mass (GVM): The total weight of the tow vehicle – the kerb weight plus payload including passengers, luggage and accessories.
The TARE weight of a vehicle means the weight of the vehicle when it is empty or not carrying cargo. The GVW of a vehicle means the licensed maximum weight of the vehicle as per the vehicle's certificate of registration. The letters and numbers listed on the side of a vehicle must be at least 50 millimeters in height.
Tare Weight or Mass
This is the weight of an empty standard vehicle with all of its fluids (for example, oils and coolants) and specifically 10 litres of fuel in the tank. Essentially, it is the same as the Kerb Weight or Mass but with only 10 litres of fuel instead of a full tank.
Gross Vehicle Mass, or GVM, is how much the vehicle can weigh when fully loaded. That includes the weight of the vehicle itself, known as 'kerb weight'. The difference between the GVM and the kerb weight is the payload.

What's the difference between kerb weight and gross weight? Kerb weight is the total weight of a vehicle, along with all standard equipment, fluids and fuel. To find a vehicle's gross weight, you add its kerb weight to the total weight of the driver, passengers and any cargo or luggage.
A truck's payload capacity refers to the maximum amount of weight you can safely add to a truck's cargo area in addition to its empty weight (or curb weight). Towing capacity, on the other hand, refers to the maximum weight that a truck can tow after factoring in the weight of the truck and any cargo.
The tow ball weight aligns with the caravan tare weight. It refers to how much pressure the caravan weight applies to the tow ball connected to your vehicle. The tow ball weight is measured when the caravan is empty aside from manufacturer specifications.
Tare Trailer Mass or Weight (TARE)
Also known as Dry Weight for obvious reasons.

Kerb Mass (or Kerb Weight): is the mass of the vehicle in running order unoccupied and unladen with all fluid reservoirs filled to nominal capacity, including fuel and with all standard equipment.
This number represents the maximum amount of weight that can be placed on an individual axle. The GAWR includes the weight of the vehicle, passengers, cargo and trailer tongue weight (if applicable). Also, front and rear axles can have individual GAWR numbers.
GVW refers to the weight you are licensed to carry and tow. GVWR refers to the weight your vehicle is designed to carry.
Kerbweight is the weight of the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all standard equipment. It does not include the weight of any passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.
To calculate this, you only need to know two key figures: the kerbweight of the car and the maximum mass of the caravan (called 'maximum technically permissible laden mass', or MTPLM). If the mass of the caravan is 85% or less of the car's kerbweight, the car will tow it with ease.
Even though the towing vehicle is able to tow more, the lowest figure of 2500kg is the maximum capacity this vehicle combination is able to safely tow. It is important to weigh your caravan each time you make a modification that adds weight, to make sure that comply with your safe towing capacity.
You also need to consider if you will be towing a trailer or caravan, and ensure that towing capacity (braked) also doesn't exceed the manufacturer ratings. If you exceed the rating for any of these loads, then you need a GVM upgrade.
Kerb weight. Car manufacturers' definitions vary but in general terms it is the weight of the car in working order (with fuel and fluids) but without any occupants or luggage. Gross vehicle weight. The maximum allowable weight of the car when fully loaded. When towing, this will include the noseweight of the caravan.
Aggregate trailer mass (ATM)
The aggregate trailer mass of a caravan means the maximum allowable weight of your caravan when fully loaded and unhitched from a tow vehicle. This includes the weight of the caravan, any modifications made after it's been built, water in the tanks, gas bottles, luggage, food, clothes, etc.
Load Capacity/Payload: the total available load in kilograms allowable for the vehicle to carry – this is the difference between the Tare weight (naked weight) and the GVM (maximum weight). CVM: Combined Vehicle Mass: the maximum weight that the vehicle, onboard load and anything being towed totals.
