The hardest parts of getting older are losing your loved ones, dealing with your deteriorating mental and physical health, and accepting the changes in your appearance. These changes are inevitable as we get older. But getting older is not all bad. In fact, some things in life get better with age.
Getting old means you will lose physical strength, flexibility and balance. The aging process brings losses in muscle and bone mass and muscle strength decline after age 30. That's right, age 30! Those changes are pretty small from 30-50, though.
Despite our youthful pessimism about growing older, a mounting body of scientific evidence shows that, in many ways, life improves with age. We become happier and less anxious, more adaptive and resilient. We deepen our friendships and expertise, and shift our focus to the positive over the negative.
A new survey finds most Americans believe the “sweet spot” in life is right in the mid-30s. A poll of 2,000 people finds four in 10 would not go back to their 20s. Instead, the perfect age to be frozen in time at is 36 years-old.
Depending on the individual, some abilities peak around the time of high school graduation, plateau in early adulthood, and begin to decline by the time they reach their 30s; and others continue to peak until well into their 40s. Then there's memory, which is widely known to deteriorate with age.

New study says decline begins in our 50s
Researchers with Duke University's School of Medicine suggest that physical decline begins in the decade of the 50s and worsens as we age, especially for those who don't exercise.
According to a new study published in the Social Indicators Research journal, we can expect to be happiest between the ages of 30 and 34. The study came to this conclusion by asking people over 50 from 13 European countries about the periods of their life in which they felt the most content.
According to the study, this increased fear with age is related to the plasticity or flexibility of the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the area responsible for complex cognitive behavior.
Difficulty with everyday tasks and mobility
A person's mobility and dexterity will naturally decline as they age, which makes completing everyday tasks more difficult. This can gradually cause people to care for themselves and prevents them from being social, pursuing interests, or taking part in activities they enjoy.
Happiness actually may increase with age. It may be unfathomable for some young people to think of their grandparents as being happier than they are, but research shows that Americans actually get happier as they age despite their health conditions and other problems that arise.
