Summa cum laude is an honorary title used by
Students who rank in the upper 10 percent of their graduating class graduate with distinction. The upper third of those awarded distinction graduate with highest distinction.
The Honours Award recognizes those students who have obtained an average mark of 80.0% to 84.9% in their course of studies in each of grades 9-12. The Honours with Distinction award recognizes those students who have obtained an average mark of 85% to 100% in their course of studies in each of grades 9-12.
A bachelor's or master's degree may be awarded with distinction if the weighted average of the courses is no less than 4.00 and the grade for the thesis is 5. The weighted grade average of the degree is displayed in the transcript of studies for bachelor's and master's degrees.
A distinction is usually the highest grade on the grading scale. It is equivalent to A or A+. Students who obtain marks above 75% usually get distinctions – students who have put in real effort and show brilliance in academics.
Distinction: much like a First at undergraduate level, a Distinction is awarded when you achieve a percentage grade of 70% and above. Merit: you'll be awarded a Merit if you achieve a grade average between 60-69%. Pass: a pass is awarded when you receive a grade average between 50-59%.
A first-class degree with a distinction grade is also known as the First and is considered the most outstanding achievement in the undergraduate course.
First Class Honours/Distinction At least 70% of the total marks available as specified in the approved course schedule. Second Class Honours, Grade 1/Merit Grade 1 At least 60% of the total marks available as specified in the approved course schedule.
Distinction (D) – equivalent to an A. Merit (M) – equivalent to a C. Pass (P) – equivalent to an E. Near pass (N) – this grade is available on most Btec Nationals.
Student has a GPA between 3.75 and 4.0. Academic Excellence: Student has a GPA which is at least 3.50 but less than 3.75.
To graduate with Distinction, students must graduate with a cumulative overall average of 80% or higher. To graduate with Dean's Honours, students must graduate with a cumulative overall average of 85% or higher. Students who qualify for both distincitions will graduate with the higher distinction.
Distinction: A superior performance; mark range 75-84.
GCSEs are now graded 9-1, with 9 the highest grade. Vocational qualifications are graded pass, merit, distinction at level one, then level 2 pass (roughly equivalent to GCSE grade 4) then climbing to Level 2 distinction (roughly GCSE level 7) before the top grade of Level 2 Distinction star (L2D*).
Graduating with a distinction
Can I graduate with a distinction? If you complete a bachelor's degree without an honours component, you may be eligible to graduate with a distinction, provided your WAM is over 70. For double degrees, you may be eligible for a distinction for one or both of your degrees.
Degree Classification: Distinction, Merit, Pass.
Distinction grade equivalent to A Level grade between B and C (225 points). Formerly equivalent to A grade – 270 points.
Once you have finished your Master's degree, your credits will then translate into either a Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail. Different universities may have different boundaries but as a general rule: Distinction – 70%+ Merit – 60-69%
In short, the number of students and even the percentage will vary from class to class or university to university. However, about 5%- 25% of each class are roughly expected to get the top grade – a distinction.
A distinction pass is when you obtain 80% or above in your subjects.
Over 30% of BTEC awards are graded starred distinction. These are considered equivalent to A* at A-Level yet under 10% of A-Levels were graded as such.
You write Distinction* on your CV as you would the grades for any other vocational qualification. Put Distinction* in parenthesis after the name of the BTEC that you received the grade for. Do the same for Distinction or Merit grades.
First-class or distinction. Upper second class or merit. Lower second class or pass. Third class or pass.
At GCSE-level, the Distinction* grade is equivalent to a bit higher than an A* or grade 8. For A-Level equivalents, the Distinction* grade is equal to A*A*A* compared to a D* in T-Levels or equal to a single A* for BTEC Nationals and Cambridge Technicals.
