“Results are unique to each woman, but I'd say, on average, a woman may experience 30 percent less bleeding if she takes 800 mg of ibuprofen (four over-the-counter pills) three times a day, ideally starting right before or when her period starts,” says Northwestern Medicine OB/GYN Heather Beall, MD. Why?
Side-Effects
A common side-effect that can come with delaying your period is spotting/breakthrough bleeding, which is when you may notice specs of blood in your underwear. Other potential side-effects could include feeling bloated, having tender breasts, a decrease in sexual desire, or an increase in blood pressure.

Ibuprofen
These drugs work by reducing your body's production of inflammatory elements called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins have important actions on the blood vessels in the inner lining of the uterus, thereby affecting the amount of bleeding that occurs during a menstrual period.
For most healthy, young (younger than 50 years old) menstruating people, using hormonal birth control is a safe and effective way to shorten their cycles or lighten their flow.
Does free bleeding makes your period end faster? While there is some evidence to suggest that free bleeding may speed up the end of your menstrual cycle, there is no scientific proof that this actually works.
