Because it lives on Earth only for 24 hours or less. Mayfly is an aquatic insect belonging to the same group of insects as dragonflies. Mayflies spend most of their lives in water as nymphs. They live as aquatic larvae for about a year or maybe more and as soon as they reproduce, they die.
Mayflies only live for 24 hours and hold the record for the shortest living life cycle on earth. This might be good news to anyone who hates bugs, but not all bugs have short lifespans. There are a few bugs that can live for years, even decades.
#1 Mayfly: Twenty-Four Hours
It belongs to the order Ephemeroptera. The fact that it belongs to this order says a lot about why this insect is at the top of the shortest lifespan list.
House flies and other larger flies that usually infest a house can live for days, maybe even months. Mayflies, however, usually only have a 24 hour lifespan.
The dainty mayfly, an insect found worldwide in clean freshwater habitats, lives for just one or two days, the shortest lifespan of any known animal.
Ephemeral mayflies
We often hear that mayflies, like the whiteflies of the Susquehanna River, have the shortest lifespan of any animal on Earth, just 24 hours for many species.
The spider lifespan can vary as much as the spider life cycle. Most spiders live about two years, but some have been known to live up to 20 years when in captivity. Female spiders tend to live longer than male spiders. Many male spiders reach maturity within two years and die after mating.
The mayfly Dolania americana in which females typically live less than five minutes is the shortest lived of these, and is therefore the insect with the shortest reproductive life (Sweeney & Vannote 1982).
Flies and cockroaches satisfy six of the criteria. According to the framework, this amounts to “strong evidence” for pain. Despite weaker evidence in other insects, many still show “substantial evidence” for pain.
While maggots and flies can become a problem any time of the year, they are especially prevalent during spring and summer when flies are more active. Generally, maggots live for around five to six days before turning into pupae and eventually transitioning into adult flies.
Each species of cockroach has their own estimated lifespan but on average, cockroaches live for about one year. Factors such as food supply, habitat and climate affect lifespan. American cockroaches can live for about one year while German cockroaches are estimated to live for about 100 days.
The longest insects are the stick insects, see below. Representatives of the extinct dragonfly-like order Meganisoptera (also known as griffinflies) such as the Carboniferous Meganeura monyi and the Permian Meganeuropsis permiana are the largest insect species ever known.

The insect we are introducing here is the Phryganistria chinensis Zhao, which, at 64 centimeters long and a body length of 38.2 centimeters, is the largest insect specimen known to man.
How long do they live? After a female lays her eggs, they will hatch in between three and ten days, depending on ambient temperature. The larva will live and grow for about a month before it enters the pupal stage, which lasts about 15 days. After the pupal stage, the adult ladybug will live up to one year.

The life expectancy of a housefly is generally 15 to 30 days and depends upon temperature and living conditions. Flies dwelling in warm homes and laboratories develop faster and live longer than their counterparts in the wild. The housefly's brief life cycle allows them to multiply quickly if left uncontrolled.
All you have to do is trap a fly and keep it in a small container. Provide food or water, and your fly should be happy for the duration of its short life.
Spiders do not sleep in the same way that humans do, but like us, they do have daily cycles of activity and rest. Spiders can't close their eyes because they don't have eyelids but they reduce their activity levels and lower their metabolic rate to conserve energy.
Some spiders have life spans of less than a year, while others may live for up to twenty years. However, spiders face many dangers that reduce their chances of reaching a ripe old age. Spiders and their eggs and young are food for many animals.
The oldest spider to have ever lived was a female trapdoor spider (Gaius villosus) named Number 16. She lived to be 43 years old before she was probably killed by a spider wasp. To put this in perspective, most female trapdoor spiders die by the time they're 25 years old.
