A number of these films also appear on the AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies lists, but there are many others and several entries with dozens of positive reviews, which are considered surprising to some experts. To date, Leave No Trace holds the site's record, with a rating of 100% and 252 positive reviews.
The Top 25 Highest-Grossing Movies of All Time Worldwide
It might surprise you that two of the 25 highest-grossing movies of all time came out in 2022, and 2021 added another another. But 2009's Avatar still holds the top spot.
On the film review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, films that have exclusively positive reviews and have been reviewed by at least five critics have a 100% approval rating.
Rated PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned – Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Rated R: Restricted – Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian. Rated X: No one under 17 admitted.
The new ratings system began with four categories: G (general audiences), M (mature audiences, changed in 1969 to PG, parental guidance suggested), R (restricted, no children under 17 allowed without parents or adult guardians), and X (no one under 17 admitted).
This is done by rating each film on a scale from G to NC-17, with G being the least restrictive rating and NC-17 being the most restrictive (in other words: no one under 17 should see it). There are also age restrictions for some theaters — for example, a theater may only allow children under 12 to see PG-rated movies.
As of February 2022, "The Passion of the Christ" (2004) ranked as the all-time highest-grossing R-rated movie in the United States and Canada.
Each of the designated ratings is defined as follows under the Motion Picture Classification and Rating program. G: GENERAL AUDIENCES. All ages admitted. PG: PARENTAL GUIDANCE SUGGESTED. Some material may not be suitable for children.
Netflix has over 17,000 titles globally as of October 2022.
An R-rated motion picture, in the view of the board, contains some adult material. The film may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense or persistent violence, sexually oriented nudity, drug abuse or other elements, so that parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously.
Since 1968, the MPAA has rated 29,791 films, and 17,202 (57 percent) of them having been rated R.
1 'The Shawshank Redemption' (1994)
The closest to a 10/10 as the film with the highest IMDb rating (at 9.3), The Shawshank Redemption is, without a doubt, a triumph.
As of June 2022, the four biggest movie flops of all time were Disney productions. "Turning Red" (2022), "Jungle Cruise" (2021), "Mars Needs Moms" (2011), and "Mulan" (2020) recorded losses of more than 140 million U.S. dollars at the global box office.
A box-office bomb, box-office flop, box-office failure, or box-office disaster is a film that is unprofitable or considered highly unsuccessful during its theatrical run.
