Black Dog Syndrome
Most experienced shelter workers will tell you that black dogs are often adopted less than any other coat color. Be it black Labrador Retrievers, Shepherds, Rottweilers, etc., they are often passed over by potential adopters.
There is no set number of pets that works for everyone. It all comes down to how much space you have, your ability to pay for their food and vet care, and your ability to care for them. If you can not truly provide for them, you have too many.
According to Svartberg's data (PDF), a pinscher, a Bernese mountain dog, or an English springer spaniel might be the most disloyal since each ranks very low on playfulness, with moderate sociability.
Compared to humans, dogs usually have superior low light sensitivity and peripheral vision. For these reasons, it is more difficult for dogs to recognise the facial expressions of a black dog.
Despite being one of the most expensive dogs in the world, the Afghan hound has the lowest IQ of all dog breeds, per Coren's research. But since these hounds are known as independent and strong willed, perhaps they just can't be bothered to learn commands; what's in it for them, after all?

Similarly, some breeds tend to kiss less than others. Khuly said that Arctic breeds, like Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds and American Eskimos, don't lick much by nature (though they can learn the behavior).
Dogs are innately loyal to humans, according to Michaelson Found Animals, likely due to the fact that they've been connected to us throughout history for hundreds of thousands of years. They are pack animals, meaning they depend on other members of their group for survival.
Licking is a natural and instinctive behaviour to dogs. For them it's a way of grooming, bonding, and expressing themselves. Your dog may lick you to say they love you, to get your attention, to help soothe themselves if they're stressed, to show empathy or because you taste good to them!
It's the general consensus that one or two dogs per household is acceptable in America. Any more, and you might become known as the local dog lady, and you may find that your two legs can't keep up with your wolf pack.
Having two dogs can be more than twice as much work as having one, and having three can require way more than three times as much effort. That pattern continues as the number of dogs increases.
Most experts agree that, as a rule, male and female dogs get along better than two females or two males. However, that being said, I've known many households (including my own) that successfully have two of the same gender dogs without any problems at all.
