The internal diatium power cell of a lightsaber is rechargeable. Diatium power cells must have tremendous cycle life to outlast many of their wielders (at least 50-100 years).
Archaic lightsabers—commonly referred to as protosabers—were the first known design of lightsaber. Like later lightsabers, their focusing crystal was set inside a hilt from which a blade of energy was emitted.
The lightclub, also known as a great lightsaber or greatsaber, was a weapon similar to a lightsaber. However, special focusing crystals and power systems enabled this rare lightsaber to project a blade up to three meters in length. These large lightsabers were generally used only by beings of immense stature.
Properties. Kathracite crystals were the weakest of the Adegan crystrals and often used to create training lightsabers for the younglings who were apart of the Jedi Order. They produced a weak pale green blade which produced very little heat and was impossible to inflict wounds.
Classical Juyo
Juyo was described as the most vicious form of lightsaber combat and was said to be filled with both fury and "malignant grace." The form was given the title of the most difficult and demanding form in all of the lightsaber combat.
This was technically a shoto lightsaber, meaning that the blade was slightly shorter so that it could easily be wielded as a secondary weapon in the Jedi's off-hand.
Kyber crystals are rare gems that possess a natural connection to the force. Kyber crystals have to be mined from deep within the ground, and so they are only found on specific worlds like Ilum, Exegol, Jedha, Lothal, and Utapau among others.
A typical lightsaber is depicted as a luminescent plasma blade about 3 feet (0.91 m) in length emitted from a metal hilt around 10.5 inches (27 cm) in length.
History. Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano were two notable practitioners of Jar'Kai, preferring to use two lightsabers as opposed to one.
The Sith apprentice Darth Maul wielded a double-bladed lightsaber made by joining two hilts together end-to-end. Maul's dexterity and extensive training allowed him to use his weapon as a single-bladed saber, or to activate both crimson blades and fight multiple opponents at once.
As a Padawan, Ahsoka Tano used a green-bladed lightsaber, often wielding it in a non-standard reverse grip. Under the tutelage of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka became a skilled duelist, and built a second green-bladed lightsaber with a shorter, shoto-style blade.
George Lucas says lightsabers are heavy
“That we couldn't take a hand off [the hilt]. We always had to have two. It was like Excalibur, 40 to 50 pounds of weight.” Lucas doubled down too, saying “They're very powerful and have a lot of energy in them... so you worked with them as if they were heavy.”
The crystals grew in an organized way, adding to their prismatic structure one piece at a time. They had no discernible lifespan, and thus could be found from sizes as small as a fingernail to gigantic proportions. All kybers were attuned to the Force regardless of their size.
A crystal embodies the Jedi as the heart of the lightsaber, and pure kyber has no color until it's bonded to the Force user. This process likely resulted in Rey Skywalker's lightsaber being yellow.
It appears rarely in the Star Wars universe—so rarely, in fact, that the current canon recognizes only one carrier of a white lightsaber. Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan who aided in the rebellion against the Galactic Empire, is acknowledged as the sole possessor of the white lightsaber.
“According to an insider, the rare black Kyber crystal is available if you get the red Kyber crystal, and the odds of getting them is 1 in 100,” Nerd Reactor writes.
The lateral vents, from which the quillons emerged, diverted the extra heat produced by the crystal to either side of the hilt, giving the crossguard lightsaber an unstable and serrated appearance.
Red lightsabers are the weakest, according to a Star Wars study conducted at the University of Leicester regarding lightsaber colors. Decades of Star Wars lore has dictated that the red lightsabers favored by The Sith offered greater offensive capabilities than the softer colors favored by The Jedi.
Leia Organa's lightsaber was a blue-bladed lightsaber powered by a kyber crystal in the core of the hilt. It was silver and copper in color and featured mother-of-pearl inlays. Organa's weapon was considered a work of art, having an elegant symmetry with silver and gold hues that evoke to her upbringing on Alderaan.
Darth Sidious was also one of the greatest and most skilled Sith swordmasters, as he has mastered all the seven lightsaber forms, all their stances and techniques and is capable of using each form equally effective ambidextrously.
Form VII, known by its two primary disciplines of Juyo and Vaapad; and also known as The Ferocity Form, was the seventh form of lightsaber combat. It was considered the most aggressive and unpredictable form.
Shii-Cho, also known as Form I, is the oldest and most elementary form of lightsaber combat developed by the Jedi Order. Shii-Cho is still taught to youngling Jedis because it is the most basic. This style is known to be used when all other forms of combat have failed.
