In young children with ADHD, hyperactivity and impulsivity are the most common symptoms. As academic and social demands increase, symptoms of inattention become more prominent and begin to interfere with academic performance and peer relationships.
ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active.
People with ADHD have difficulty focusing on tasks and controlling their attention, which can make completing a project, for example, challenging. ADHD can limit a person's ability to study or work, and it can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression. Some people with ADHD also find it hard to sit still.
The symptoms of ADHD, such as inability to pay attention, difficulty sitting still, and difficulty controlling impulses, can make it hard for children with this diagnosis to do well in school. Accommodations to lessen the effect of ADHD on their learning.
ADHD symptoms
There are three kinds of behavior involved in ADHD: inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Of course all young children occasionally have trouble paying attention to teachers and parents, staying in their seats, and waiting their turn.
Impaired cognitive development is also reported to be associated with ADHD [10–12]. The domains of cognitive function that are often impaired in ADHD include those relating to executive functions, such as impulse control and working memory, as well as non-executive functions, such as memory and reaction time [10].
Most frequently displayed symptoms:
inability to discriminate between/among letters, numerals, or sounds, poor reading and/or writing ability, eye-hand coordination problems; poorly coordinated, difficulties with sequencing, and/or.
ADHD can affect a student's ability to focus, pay attention, listen, or put effort into schoolwork. ADHD also can make a student fidgety, restless, talk too much, or disrupt the class. Kids with ADHD might also have learning disabilities that cause them to have problems in school.
These may include hyperfocus, resilience, creativity, conversational skills, spontaneity, and abundant energy. Many people view these benefits as “superpowers” because those with ADHD can hone them to their advantage.
The five factors are Neuroticism, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness. Briefly, Neuroticism is the predisposition to experience psychological stress in the form of anxiety, anger, depression or other negative affect.
Deficits in long-term memory are not characteristic of ADHD.
The core symptoms of ADHD, like impulsivity and inattention, might lead children to behave in ways that can put their health at risk or cause them to forget healthy and protective behaviors.
Doesn't seem to be listening when spoken to directly. Has trouble organizing tasks and possessions. Often fails to finish work in school or chores in the classroom. Often avoids or resists tasks that require sustained mental effort, including doing homework.
When children with ADHD enter a social setting, they may have a hard time sharing, taking turns, listening, and picking up on social cues. They often become bored, distracted, or check-out of the conversation. Students with ADHD may have a hard time managing their emotions when interacting with their peers.
Reading difficulties are observed among students with learning disabilities more than any other problem area of academic performance. It is the most prevalent type of academic difficulty for students with learning disabilities.
Difficulty understanding the meaning of what is read. Difficulty with spelling. Difficulty with written expression (e.g., problems with grammar, punctuation or organization). Difficulty understanding number concepts, number facts or calculation.
What are the characteristics of learning-disabled children? They possess poor social skills. They have disruptive behaviour. They lack attention or too much attention with too much detail.
Cognitive impairment is not an illness, but it can signal other medical conditions. Signs of cognitive impairment can include memory loss, mood swings and behavioural changes.
Common Characteristics of Gifted Children:
Ability to comprehend material several grade levels above their age peers. Surprising emotional depth and sensitivity at a young age. Strong sense of curiosity. Enthusiastic about unique interests and topics.
Poor memory. Inability to understand consequences of actions. Poor problem-solving skills. Poor understanding of social rules.
