Learn about the Pallas cat (Otocolobus manul), a resident of the Central Asian steppe that's known as the grumpiest cat in the world owing to its rather pinched appearance.
The Pallas's cats' famous expression appears cantankerous in part due to their flat faces, which have large, owl-like eyes with round pupils. Their bodies aren't actually as large as they appear, and aren't as big as one might expect of a wildcat.
Grumpy Cat was definitely a mixed breed and her family noted that she looked like she may have had some Persian, Ragdoll or Snowshoe in her. The family didn't breed Grumpy Cat so unfortunately, her lineage ended with her. Known for her grumpy expression, Tardar Sauce wasn't permanently perturbed in real life.

CLARIFICATION: Pallas' cats, while adorable to look at, should not be kept as pets. Not only is it difficult for them to survive at low altitudes, but they are truly wild animals.
They are around 20 to 24 inches long with an 8- to 10-inch-long tail. They weigh between 4 and 11 pounds. Pallas' cats are found in Turkmenistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Mongolia, and Russia. They live in shrublands, grasslands, deserts and rocky areas.

In short, no. While people might want to own a rusty-spotted cat because it is cute and intelligent, and their size makes them seem manageable and less dangerous, the truth of the matter is that these situations usually don't work out and the animals wind up being euthanized or placed in a rescue like Lemur Island.
As with any wild cat, you should never have a sand cat for a pet, although that doesn't stop many from capturing them to sell on the black market. Their natural instincts are far stronger than a house cat's and can get bored very easily.

Presumably, this helps keep the cats warm as they hunt on snow or frozen ground. The length and density of their fur also changes seasonally, growing longer and heavier in the winter.
