On average one fatal attack is reported each year, but in the same period we averaged 122 coastal drowning deaths, with 25 per cent due to dangerous rip currents. Swimming pools are the most common location for toddler drownings making up 67% of all cases followed by bathtubs which account for 22%.

Collaroy Beach
Usually known for its surf, the central area suitable for parents with little ones is at the southern headland between Beach Road and Florence Avenue. Here there is a fantastic fenced playground, a car park, an adult ocean pool, a shallow toddler pool and rock pools.
It's best to swim, dive or surf with other people. Avoid swimming and surfing at dawn, dusk and night – sharks can see you but you can't see them. Keep away from murky, dirty water, and waters with known effluents or sewage.
It used to be illegal to swim on beaches
While on the topic of beaches, in 1838 it was declared illegal to swim at public beaches in New South Wales. Beach lovers had to take the risk and swim after dark to get their salt water hit.
Bondi Beach is a popular beach and the name of the surrounding suburb in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. General safety

Children. Children ages 1–4 have the highest drowning rates. Most drownings in children 1–4 happen in swimming pools. Drowning can happen even when children are not expected to be near water, such as when they gain unsupervised access to pools.
Between 1990 and 2017 there have been a total of 3 unprovoked shark attacks at Bondi Beach. None have been fatal.
Eighty-seven percent of drowning fatalities happen in home pools or hot tubs for children younger than 5. Most take place in pools owned by family or friends. Children 5 to 17 years old are more likely to drown in natural water, such as ponds or lakes.
