The first full payment at the new rates of pension will be payday 6 April 2023. The maximum rate of single service pension will rise by $37.50 to $1,064.00 per fortnight and the maximum rate for couples will increase by $28.20 to $802.00 per fortnight (each).
Full Age Pension income threshold increases by:
Singles threshold $204 per fortnight, increase is $14 per fortnight, $364 per annum. Couples threshold $360 per fortnight, increase is $24 per fortnight, $624 per annum.
The payment rates for Age Pension, Carer Payment and Disability Support Pension are increasing from 20 March 2023. Age Pension, Carer Payment and Disability Support Pension will increase by $37.50 a fortnight for singles and $56.40 a fortnight for couples combined.
Families (seniors and pensioners) will be increased from $51,401 to $53,406.
Latest Age Pension changes (from 20 March 2023)
From 20 March 2023 the maximum full Age Pension increases $37.50 per fortnight for a single person, and $28.20 per person per fortnight for a couple.
The Order is currently linked to the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and is based on CPI as at the previous September. CPI at September 2022 was 10.1% which means that your pension will increase by 10.1% from 10 April 2023.
The government will provide $3.7 million in 2023–24 to extend the measure to provide age and veteran pensioners a once-off credit of $4,000 to their Work Bonus income bank and temporarily increase the maximum income bank until 31 December 2023.

The Work Bonus income bank is useful for pensioners who wish to work, particularly those who undertake intermittent or occasional work. Note: from 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023, a one-off, temporary credit of $4,000 applies to Work Bonus income bank balances.
If you're a pensioner currently receiving support through Centrelink, you may be eligible for extra help with bills and medicine costs through the Pension Supplement. This supplement is a combined payment of Pharmaceutical Allowance, Utilities Allowance, GST Supplement and Telephone Allowance.
A pensioner can earn up to $33,000 before paying tax in Australia, if single, or $30,500 if a member of a couple. This is calculated using the tax-free threshold of $18,200, plus being eligible for the Low Income Tax Offset and the Seniors and Pensioners Tax Offset (SAPTO).
The payments will be indexed, rising just over 6 per cent. This means the Youth Allowance rate will go up by at least $19 a fortnight. Austudy will increase by between $32.40 and $41.40 per fortnight, and those under the age of 21 on the Disability Support Pension will receive an extra $27.40 to $40.70 a fortnight.
A single pensioner can earn $190 per fortnight before it affects the pension and a pensioner couple can earn up to $336 per fortnight, combined, before it affects the pension. However, the Work Bonus allows you to earn up to and additional $300 from work-related earnings before Centrelink pension payments are affected.
The future of payments will involve a greater emphasis on digital and mobile payments, as well as the continued development of peer to peer technologies. Also, Contactless payments, using technologies like NFC, will become more prevalent.
