dolphinfish (plural dolphinfishes or dolphinfish) A large food and game fish of the Coryphaenidae family which is commonly found in tropical and subtropical waters.
The plural form of dolphin is dolphins.
If you're referring to several species of fish, though, the regular plural “fishes” is often used instead. For example, “The aquarium contains many different fishes, including trout and carp.”
When we see the historical spelling of dolphin, we can see that both the 'ph' and 'f' have been used. So, between phonetics and history, it's easy to why many people spell the word 'dolfin' instead of'dolphin.
1 fox /ˈfɑːks/ noun. plural foxes.
However, given that “platypodes” has for some unfathomable reason never become popular, the dictionary goes on to say that the accepted plural is “platypuses” or (particularly in scientific and conservation contexts) “platypus”. (For the sake of simplicity, we prefer using the second term.)
Octopuses ✅
Generally, when a noun enters into English, it is pluralized as an English word rather than in its original form. Octopuses may sound peculiar to some, but this is the preferred plural.
The dolphinfish is also often called mahi-mahi, and not at all related to the marine mammal dolphins. This colorful, distinct fish has a long body and a blunt face, with a forked caudal fin (tail), and a dorsal fin that runs the length of its body.
Dolphin fish are also known as dorado or mahi mahi. These other names help people avoid confusing this fish with dolphins, which are marine mammals. Able to swim at 50 miles per hour, dolphin fish feed on other fast swimmers including flying fish and squid.
Mahimahi is the Hawaiian name for dolphinfish.
salm·on ˈsa-mən. plural salmon also salmons.
The plural of “moose” is the same as the singular: “moose.” It's one of a group of plural nouns in English that are identical to the corresponding singular nouns. So it's wrong to write “mooses.” For example, you might write “There are several moose in the forest.”
mon·key ˈməŋ-kē plural monkeys.
Nouns that don't change in their plural forms (called “zero plurals”) include “series,” “aircraft” and “species.” But most zero-plural words refer to animals, e.g., deer, moose, sheep, elk, walrus, antelope, fish, buffalo, salmon.

In just 3-4 months a Dolphinfish will grow from tiny larvae to over a foot and a half long and be sexually mature enough to reproduce! A female Mahi which we refer to as a Cow, can spawn 2 or 3 times per year producing anywhere from 100,000 – 1,000,000 eggs each time.
A porpoise is a sea animal that looks like a dolphin. Porpoises usually swim in groups.
The first difference between sharks and dolphins is the type of animal they are — sharks are fish while dolphins are mammals (like us). Dolphins, and other mammals, are warm blooded, give birth to live young, nurse their young, are born with hair, and breathe air.
It's a good thing because they are regarded as one of the most delicious and sought after fish too. With new techniques and modern equipment it is common for commercial fishermen to catch up to a thousand pounds of dolphin fish on a good day. The meat is firm and white and quite easy to cook.
The most common is a nursery group of 5-20 dolphins made up of females and their calves—although occasionally they will gather in groups (with males) of 1,000 or more.
Gender Differences
Dolphins have no secondary sex characteristics. The only way to determine a dolphin's gender in the wild is to see a clear view of their genitals, or to observe an erection, act of intercourse, or a baby swimming close to an adult presumed to be a female.
