And Psalm 25:9 is saying that he teaches the humble his way. So the key to righteousness and the key to experiencing the ways of God, the abundant life that God has designed for us, his ways in our lives, is humility. So we pray, Oh, God, we ask for humility in each of our lives. God, we pray for humility.
21 The prayer of the humble passes through the clouds, and it will never stop until it draws near to God. It will never withdraw until the Most High takes notice, 22 gives justice for the righteous, and executes judgment.
1 Peter 5:6-7. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Psalm 25:9 says that God will teach the meek his way. In other words, the meek will do things God's way. In the Gospel by Matthew, another friend of Jesus, we read these words of Jesus: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth". (Matthew 5:5) "Blessed" means "God will be good to".
Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 15:33 “The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honour.” Proverbs 18:12 “Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honour.”
Proverbs 18:12 King James Version (KJV)
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, And before honour is humility.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient and accept each other with love. You are joined together with peace through the Spirit.
The original Hebrew of Psalm 86:11 reads “Teach me, O Lord, your ways, that I might walk in your truth/faithfulness.” The Hebrew word translated as “faithfulness” in the NIV can also mean “truth” ('emet; see NRSV, ESV). “To walk” means, in this context, to live each day.
“Let none who wait on thee be ashamed” —Psalm 25:3
David is praying that he would not experience the embarrassment that would come if his confidence in the Lord was unfounded, and his enemies did indeed triumph in the end.
The Lord promises spiritual blessing to the person who reverences the Lord. Further, He promises the descendants of the person who reverences Him will possesses the land; that is, Canaan, the Promised Land.
James 4:10 in Other Translations
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. 10 Get down on your knees before the Master; it's the only way you'll get on your feet.
David calls on God to show him His ways in Psalm 25:4. "Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths." David yearned for God's wisdom. He yearned to know God's truth and to follow His plans for his life because David's ways were only leading him into misery and anxiety.
He asks the Lord to keep him from being victimized by his enemies. David does not want his enemies to disgrace him and boast about what they had done to him. David writes that he trusts in his God.
Psalms 25:3 In-Context
1 In you, LORD my God, I put my trust. 2 I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
Psalm 85 is essentially a prayer for God to restore God's people. It, in fact, uses the word “restore” twice.
In Psalm 86 we see a prayer of a man who has a proper perspective. While he finds himself in a difficult situation he remains confident that God hears and is able to save him. He's sure that even though his situation is dire, his God is bigger and desires to show mercy to those whom He loves.
6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation. 8 I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants— but let them not turn to folly.
"Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues." "We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility." "True humility is intelligent self respect which keeps us from thinking too highly or too meanly of ourselves. It makes us modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be."
Walking Humbly With God Means Letting Him Teach Us What Is Good. Jesus brought together loving God and loving neighbors in Matthew 22. He communicated his expectation and desire for us, his deeply loved children, to treat each other fairly and with kindness — with justice and mercy.
Prayer for Humility
Let me know my absurdity before I act absurdly. Let me realize that when I am humble I am most human, most truthful, and most worthy of your serious consideration.
Proverbs 22:4 – The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life.
