R 18+ restricted
R 18+ films are legally restricted. R 18+ films are not suitable for people aged under 18 and people screening R 18+ content must not allow those aged under 18 to view the content.
People under 18 may not legally purchase, rent, exhibit or view R 18+ classified content. A person may be asked for proof of age before purchasing, hiring or viewing an R 18+ film or computer game at a retail store or cinema. Some material classified R 18+ may be offensive to sections of the adult community.
Cinemas are required to abide by the MA 15+ and R 18+ restrictions. This means refusing entry to an MA 15+ film to any person who reasonably appears to be under 15 and who is not accompanied by his or her parent or a guardian. Entry to an R 18+ film can be refused to any person who reasonably appears to be under 18.
C: This content is purely for children under 14 years of age, but over the preschool age. Each 30 minute broadcast of a C-classified program may not contain more than seven minutes of appropriate advertising. Equivalent to TV-Y7 in the US.
General (G)
The G classification is suitable for everyone. G products may contain classifiable elements such as language and themes that are very mild in impact.
Australia is one of only nine countries to be rated AAA by all three major credit rating agencies and this was achieved for the first time under the last Labor Government. Our high credit rating allows Australia to access funds at lower rates.
R: Restricted - Under 17 requires accompanying parent or guardian. Children under 17 are not allowed to attend R-rated movies unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 25 years of age or older.
Films classified MA 15+ are considered unsuitable for persons under 15 years of age. It is a legally restricted category. Consumer advice is additional information about the main content of a film which is intended to help consumers decide if they want to view this type of material.
Children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian over the age of 21 for R-rated movies. I.D. is required for proof of age. Children under 6 years of age are not permitted into R-rated features at all.
1971: 'R' rating arrives
The first feature given an 'R' classification was Percy (1971), and the first to screen publicly was Robert Altman's McCabe and Mrs Miller (1971). Stork (1971) and The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972) were among the first R-rated Australian films.
The NC-17 rating is the highest rating (even higher than the R-rating) that a film can be given, and it means the movie is for adults only (ages 18 and older) and no one age 17 or younger will be admitted. This rating, prior to 1990, was previously rated X.
The R rating means that children under 17 years are not admitted to the theater without a parent. Movies may get an R rating for different reasons. This rating is given for nudity, profanity, or violence. Nudity, depending on the context, may be harmless.
The R-rating doesn't ban children under 17 from a movie, it restricts them to watching it with a parent or guardian (and includes a recommendation that parents and guardians learn more before allowing their child to see the movie).
R: Restricted, Children Under 17 Require Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian. This rating means the film contains adult material such as adult activity, harsh language, intense graphic violence, drug abuse and nudity.
A 15 rating means nobody under 15 is allowed full stop. 12A films are the ones where younger kids can go with a parent/ adult. Can a 12 year old watch a movie? Unaccompanied children of any age may watch, but parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children.
Responsibility for allowing under-12s to view lies with the accompanying or supervising adult. (15) 15 No-one younger than 15 may see a '15' film in a cinema.
Rated PG: Parental guidance suggested – Some material may not be suitable for children. Rated PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned – Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Rated R: Restricted – Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian. Rated NC-17: No children under 17 admitted.
Obviously, it's rated R and is another slasher movie, but the gore level, language and particularly, the sex can vary from film to film. So, this parents guide may seem like a no-brainer to many of you, but there are some nuances to each film and I'm here to let you know what to expect.
Air is rated R by the MPAA for language throughout. Violence: An angry man threatens to bite off someone's genitals: this is not a serious threat but is part of an argument. Sexual Content: There is a brief glimpse of a nude male statue with visible genitals.
AMC Requires Adult Supervision For Guests Under 17 in R-Rated Movies. AMC policies specific to R-Rated titles include children under 6 are not allowed at R-Rated movies after 6pm at any theatre. Guests under 17 must be accompanied by a guardian who is 21 or older.
