The 1977 Coat of Arms 50c is the rare one. They were not meant to be minted but 10 of them have appeared. Embrace all the imperfections.
A list of valuable 50c Australian coins is fairly short - most are only worth their face value unless they are in premium grade. One of the first 50 cent piece designs that many people notice in their change are the fifty cent coins struck for the Centenary of Federation - there is one for each state and territory.
In Australia in 1977, the Royal Australian Mint produced a special circulating commemorative 50 cents coin to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. This silver jubilee issue was intended to be the only design for the 1977-dated 50 cents coins produced that year.
The Two Versions of the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown Coin
One of the ways you can tell if you have either a cupro-nickel version or the silver proof version, is by looking at the thickness of the coin. The cupro-nickel coin is 3.2mm, while the silver proof coin has less thickness on the coin as it is 2.89mm.
A really interesting error on a 1977 50 cent. It looks like it was struck through an attached cold shut. The smooth surface of the struck through area indicates a cold shut while the fractured edge shows that the cold shut was probably attached. Something quite different to a typical planchet flaw.
It's from 1966,' she wrote. Coin enthusiasts were quick to offer their varying assessments on its worth, with most guessing between $8 and $15 dollars. 'Dealers will give you $8 or so for them or charge you $11 or thereabouts unless in extremely fine or mint condition,' one person wrote.
This particular 1966 round 50 cent shows a linear planchet flaw on the obverse of the coin extending fully from one rim to another across the full diameter from the second E in ELIZABETH to the I in Australia.

It's important to note that only the John F Kennedy 1964 half dollars are composed of 90% silver, so be sure to check the dates on these coins to ensure that you're buying or selling silver coins as opposed to nickel-copper coins.
1849 Double Eagle Gold Coin
The one remaining specimen is carefully preserved at National Numismatic Collections at the Smithsonian Institution. The 1849 Double Eagle is currently the rarest and most valuable coin in the world, with an estimated worth of nearly $20 million.
And the silver crisis of 1945 and 1946 and the 1945 Penny, Australia's rarest penny. And this 1946 cupro nickel florin, an experimental strike in an alternative metal and the the only example held by a private collector. The Melbourne Mint produced four florins in cupro nickel.
You can see the Numisbid images of the coin above. This is for a coin with a McDonald's catalogue value of $5, from a proof set with a mintage of 80,000. The set itself has a catalogue value of $50 but in the real world 1983 proof sets can be had for less than twenty dollars.
Some of the 2010 50 cent coins were minted with the obverse and reverse die rotated 30 degrees or one face of the dodecagonal shaped planchet. Presumably this was in error.

Weighing 13.28 grams with 0.3416oz of silver it wasn't long before the value of the silver content far outweighed the 50c face value and it was withdrawn from production and replaced in 1969 with the dodecagonal-12 sided shape.
The coin is the silver 50c coin released for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which was initially sold for $12.50. Following the Queen's death, the numismatist said the coin is now valued at $100.
In a new video, TikTok user TheHistoryOfMoney pointed out how an easy-to-miss feature on the 2000 Millennium 50 cent piece could be worth as much as $800. Perth money expert Joel Kandiah, who runs the TikTok account, said the St George's Cross in the Union Jack on the tail side of the coin is meant to be raised.

50 cent, or half dollar coins, are uncommon because they are not very useable and are an inconvenient size. Most Americans prefer using cash. Even countries where coins are more common in everyday transactions, such as Japan and the UK, have coins much smaller than the US Half Dollar Coin.
Interesting 1983 50 cent with partial collar error. The coin blank failed to engage fully with the collar die and when struck formed a characteristic flange around the rim of the coin.
The proof version contains 0.841 troy ounces of silver. Therefore, if the price of silver was £14 per troy ounce, the proof coin would be worth around £11.80 at the very least. Coin collectors or numismatics and collects of Royal memorabilia will typically pay much more however.
