We believe one of the reasons is that super-straight hair — also known as type 1a hair — is so rare. In fact, it's the rarest hair type. Only 2% of the world's population has 1a hair. It's mostly found in people of Asian descent.
Human hair comes with all sorts of colors, textures and shapes. Notably, African hair is more coiled and dry; Asian hair is straighter and thicker; and Caucasian hair is somewhere in between with around 45% having straight hair, 40% having wavy hair, and 15% having curly hair.
Hair type 1A is super-straight. It doesn't even hold a curl! 1A is the rarest hair type.
Straight hair is one of the most common hair types across the world. Each person has a unique texture. There are four main types of hair texture: Type 1 - straight, Type 2 - wavy, Type 3 - curly and Type 4 - tightly curled.
The least common hair type, 1A hair is extremely fine and perfectly straight. Consequently, it can look a bit flat and limp and might prove difficult to style.
A general observation across experiments was that straight hair was perceived as younger, healthier, and more attractive than wavy hair and darker shades (medium copper and brown) were perceived more positively than blonde hair.
According to the survey, the majority of men (42%) found blonde hair to be the most attractive. This was followed by brunette (36%), red (16%), black (5%), and gray (1%).
Thick Hair Type
Also known as coarse hair, thick hair is strong and usually takes longer to dry than other types of hair texture. It can be resistant to various chemical treatments, can tolerate heat well and resist breakage.
TYPE 1: STRAIGHT
This is the oiliest of all hair types and also the most resilient which means it doesn't damage as easily.
The two rarest hair types are type 1a hair and coily hair. We'll learn a lot about those two below.
The rarest natural hair colour is red, which makes up only one to two percent of the global population. You commonly see these hair colours in western and northern areas of Europe, especially Scotland and Ireland. However, natural redheads may not exist for much longer.
Type 1 hair is hair that lies flat, or straight. Straight locks tend to be on the shinier side because the hair's natural oils are able to travel from root to tip. This hair category includes divisions 1A, 1B, and 1C. Type 1A is “stick” straight hair that has no hint of curl or wave.
And while the results did vary, in the end we found that 58% of the fellas agreed that curlier is sexier. Here's what they had to say: Bobby, 21: For me, Lea Michele does look good with both straight and curly hair but something about her in this curly picture makes her seem more welcoming. It's not just the smile.
Many Asians have naturally straight hair, but there is a significant group of us who do have naturally curly or wavy hair! However, because it's the norm to see straight and sleek hair, curly haired boys and girls tend to think that their hair is some kind of unruly straight hair that isn't behaving.
The African hair is generally curly or frizzy, and grows almost parallel to the scalp. It has the slowest growth rate of 0.9 centimeters per month due to its spiral structure which causes it to twist on itself as it grows. African hair has a flattened shape.
Type 1A - This hair type is extremely soft, smooth and shiny. While this hair may feel like a dream for many, it lacks volume. Type 1B - slightly thicker and bouncier than 1A. Type 1C - Most coarse and thick straight hair.
Type 2C hair waves start from the scalp and are thicker than other Type 2 hair types. This coarse hair type is the frizziest and forms a clearly defined “S” shape.
Solange Knowles, Issa Rae and Lupita Nyong'o are z-pattern curl goals. Z-pattern, or zig-zag curls, have their own special magic thanks to the uniqueness of their curl pattern. They're a flatter curl and can bend in sharp angles like the letter Z. And they can be soft and fine or coarse and wiry.
Caucasian hair usually appears thicker since it is more difficult to see through the scalp than other ethnic hair types. However, Asian hair is the thickest and coarsest hair of any ethnic group.
Thick or coarse hair is the thickest and most resistant to damage. It has all three layers of hair: the cortex, cuticle, and medulla. Thick hair has the appearance of a full head of hair and can hold styles well. However, it may take longer to dry and can become frizzy in humid weather.
Type 4C. 4C textures are similar to 4B textures, but the tightly-coiled strands are more fragile and have a very tight zig-zag pattern that is sometimes indiscernible to the eye. This hair type experiences the greatest amount of shrinkage — about 75 percent or more — than the other textures.
Brunette was clearly the hair color perceived as most attractive, with blonde as the second most attractive, and red as the least attractive. Figure 1 summarizes these results.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, many women appreciate men who trim their pubic areas or shave them smooth entirely. According to some, it helps men and women think of a guy's package as larger. But women appreciate body hair on a guy's arms and legs, and even some on his chest if it's not super thick or like a carpet.
