On April 4, 1997, just a few days before the start of the Masters, Woods shot a 13-under 59 alongside Mark O'Meara at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla. He still maintains it's the best round of golf he's ever played in his life.
So Tiger Woods, perhaps the greatest golfer of all time, discussed his “perfect” round with Golf Digest. Woods revealed that he had shot a 59 only once, and it happened at Isleworth Country Club in Windemere, Florida, a week before the 1997 Masters.
That record currently belongs to Dustin Johnson and it is one that he achieved fairly recently. In 2020, he posted a score of 268 which broke the record that Tiger Woods had set which was 270 in 1997.
But no one is ever going to birdie 18 holes. In the perfect game you reach the green in the fewest possible number of strokes and hole your first putt. If you can reach the green in two strokes, then the second shot should go in the cup. It will never be played.
Rhein Gibson, Astara Golf Championship winner, holds the Guinness World Record for the lowest recorded round of golf: 55.
The highest, 72-hole winning total in PGA Championship history is 1-over-par 281. It's been recorded on three occasions. Jay Hebert in 1960 at Akron, Ohio's Firestone Country Club, South Course, was the first to do so. It was good for a one-stroke triumph over Australia's Jim Ferrier.
While the putt just slid past the cup to the right, he tapped in for par for the first round of 58 in PGA Tour history. Furyk hit 13/14 fairways—his only miss coming at the seventh, where he still made birdie—and all 18 greens in regulation. He averaged 21 feet with his approach shots and needed 24 putts.
An ace of a par 5 – typically one of the longest holes on any golf course – is known as a “condor.” Through 2021, there are only six known official condors in the world.
While the three-under hole is still referred to as a “double-eagle” in the US, just about everywhere else in the world has adopted the British term for the feat, the Albatross. Bigger and even more rare than an eagle, it is a fitting name for one of the rarest feats in golf.
The truth is, Tiger can hit a 7 iron 140 yards or he can hit it 200+ yards.
Tiger Woods – 498 yards
It's also Tiger Woods longest drive, topping out at 498 yards. Woods hit this bomb during the Mercedes Championship on the 18th hole of the Plantation Course, Kapalua in 2002.
He shot a 59 at the 2004 Grand Slam of Golf, an unofficial PGA Tour event. Most records inevitably lose some prestige each time they are matched. The hysteria surrounding Mickelson suggests that "59" is immune to that phenomenon.
The short answer is that Woods' lowest ever score is 59. He achieved golf's magic number on 4 April 1997 at his local course, Isleworth in Florida, just one week before his first Masters win at Augusta National.
Tiger Woods. The 15-time Major champion has had 11 spells at the world's helm, spending an incredible 683 weeks at the top in total. Woods' longest spell as No. 1 came between June 12, 2005, and October 30, 2010 – a whopping 281 weeks.
He lost to Woods every time from then on. Woods first broke 70 on a regulation golf course at age 12. When Woods was 13 years old, he played in the 1989 Big I, which was his first major national junior tournament.
Do par-6 holes exist on golf courses around the world? Yes, but they are not common. How long does a hole have to be to be called a par-6? Nearly 700 yards for men, nearly 600 yards for women — but there are other factors besides length that determine what the par rating of a golf hole is.
Are there any par 2 holes in golf? The par 2 holes will be seen in one of two places, on a miniature golf course or on a pitch and putt style golf course. USGA rated golf courses used for tournament play and events will not include a par 2. The USGA considers a par 3 to a par 6 to be regulation.
A standard round of golf consists of 18 holes, and as such most courses contain 18 distinct holes; however, there are many 9-hole courses and some that have holes with shared fairways or greens. There are also courses with a non-standard number of holes, such as 12 or 14.
The longest recorded straight drive hole-in-one is believed to be 517 yards or 473 metres, on the par-5 No. 9 hole at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver in 2002, aided by the thin air due to the high altitude.
Hole 7 (964 yards) – Satsuki GC, Sano, Japan
Despite Gunsan's lengthy fairway it's hole seven at Satsuki that holds the official record for the world's longest hole.
The longest hole-in-one on the PGA Tour is 332 yards (303.58 metres) by Andrew Magee (USA) on the Par-4 17th hole during the first round of the Phoenix Open at TPC of Scottsdale in Arizona, USA, on 25 January 2001.
LA QUINTA, Calif. – In the storied history of PGA West's Stadium Course, one thing was missing: an albatross in PGA TOUR competition. California native Xander Schauffele changed that Sunday at The American Express. Schauffele holed out from 226 yards on the par-5 fifth hole Sunday, his first career albatross on TOUR.
It was also found that the best years for a golf professional are between 30 and 35, although plenty of tour players have shown they can still win tournaments in their 40s.
Even air temperature affects the flight of a ball. PGA Tour professional Phil Mickelson claims that a hot day can change the distance of his 7-iron from 175-yards to 185-yards. It is not important that a nine-iron hits the ball a specific distance.
