Weaknesses. Connection to their mother – Killing a mother changeling will cause its children to die instantly. Fire – Setting a changeling on fire will kill it. Mirrors – A changeling's true form is revealed in a mirror.
If you regularly notice paranormal activity and are rarely phased by it, you may be a changeling. You do not have to see them to feel that they are there. Frequent nightmares and difficulty to sleep at night may also be a sign. Changelings sometimes develop nocturnal tendencies.
Changelings were fairies who had been left in place of a human child or baby who had been stolen by the fairies. The child was taken for one of three reasons; to act as a servant, for the fairies to receive the love of a human child, or for malice/revenge.
Babies are most at risk, although the Sidhe fear nothing more than iron and fire, so a pair of scissors or tongs may be left near to the crib, or the crib left close to a fireplace, and draping a garment belonging to the father of the child over the baby as it sleeps is also said to be a preventative.
A changeling is typically identifiable via a number of traits; in Irish legend, a fairy child may appear sickly and will not grow in size like a normal child, and may have notable physical characteristics such as a beard or long teeth.
Changelings born from two changeling parents are born in their natural form: pale, slender, with colorless eyes and white hair.
They have large colorless eyes circled by thick black rings. Their hair color is most commonly a light shade of silver followed by platinum and blonde. In rarer cases, their hair can be pale shades of green, pink, and blue. Similar to elves, changelings lack body and facial hair.
Changelings have red blood like a majority of the other races. Bleeding around others may alert many that the Changeling is not of the same race (should the blood color vary). For this reason, a Changeling will usually choose to take the form of a race with red blood.
The true form of a changeling is a bit paler than a typical human with slightly elongated limbs. Their eyes are colorless and ringed by black as pictured in the artwork above by Julia Zhuravleva. They have no body hair, but the hair on their head can be platinum, white, or silver.
What Can a Changeling Turn Into? a changeling can turn into a humanoid of similar size. That means while you cannot change from medium to small, you could take the form of a wide range of other races or even individuals.
By RAW changelings revert when they DIE but not when they are unconscious (it would be hard to maintain a long term masquerade if you revert when you sleep!). I bet suggested that a piece of a Changeling — such as cut hair — WILL revert, but that this is slow and may take up to 24 hours.
Changeling Traits
Age: Changelings reach adulthood at the age of 16. Their fey heritage allows them to live much longer than humans, up to 200 years.
Changelings are bad. The person who leaves infant Bloom in the human world does so knowing it is at minimum, culturally unacceptable, and possibly breaks some laws. The way kids treat Bloom when they find out she's a Changeling is similar to the way kids treat Harry Potter when they learn he can speak Parseltongue.
Powers & Abilities
In their human forms, the Changelings also appear to be immune to the effect of sunlight just like Stalklings, regardless if they are in their troll forms as well, thus making them the perfect spies for the Gumm-Gumms.
A changeling can alter its appearance. It can conceal existing scars or tattoos, or add new ones. So the tattoo will exist, but the changeling can hide it.
The Gift of Water is the blessing of the Waterborn. The changelings blessed with it can spend one point of Glamour to allow the changeling to breathe underwater and swim at a terrific rate (equal to twice the character's Speed rating) for the rest of the scene.
The short version is that a Changeling can shapeshift to a form that can produce sperm to impregnate someone, and can shapeshift to a form with a uterus and eggs to get pregnant, but a pregnant Changeling cannot shapechange to a form without a uterus without ending the pregnancy.
Changeling Appearance
Their true skin is usually grey or pale white, and their facial features are blank slates to an unnerving degree. They're typically thin and gaunt, and their hair is usually silvery with an occasional green or pink tint.
Changeling Reproduction
If a changeling in a female form conceives a child, she loses the ability to change her gender until after the child is born.
Changelings need to sleep like everyone else after all and if they always reverted to their natural state when sleeping they would have one hell of a time staying hidden. A sleeping creature is considered unconscious in 5e at least.
When the human part of a changeling dies (Banal Death), the fae self may live on, but that changeling will never come into existence again. Commoners are reborn into another human host who has a different appearance and upbringing from the previous mortal seeming.
If a savvy investigator gets suspicious of you, there's a method available to them that allows them to determine your guilt with certainty: the blood test. Changeling blood is different from human blood. It reacts to strong heat. If someone is allowed to draw your blood and heat it, you'll be revealed as a changeling.
Changelings are often very mischievous growing up, as they get older they tend to calm down and begin being more helpful. Changelings though do to their mischievous behavior are often depicted as evil creatures and sent by the devil to take the place of a human parents infant.
