After years of sacrificing himself for his family, it felt sort of anticlimactic when Dean died by accident in the field. Rather than some macho-heroic death or some world-ending mission (he'd been on plenty of those before, and even died in a few), Dean was impaled while fighting a masked vampire.
Let's back up: When a standard vampire hunt went wrong, Dean was impaled on a nail. As a result, he died in his brother's arms. Sam then went on to live a full life with a wife and a son named Dean before he eventually died of old age.
Demonic Weaknesses
Purified blood - Purified blood caused great pain to Dean. Demon Curing Ritual - He could be cured by the ritual. Angels - An angel was able restrain Dean. The First Blade - The First Blade was the only known weapon that could kill Dean.
Finally free from Chuck, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) went on one last hunt to track down some evil mimes who were stealing children. Unfortunately, Dean got fatally stabbed during the hunt, and gave one hell of an emotional speech to his brother as he died.
Season 15, Episode 20, "Carry On"
This idea turned out to be correct when it came to Dean, who died in the series finale when he was impaled on a piece of rebar.
Supernatural's Dean and Sam are no strangers to death. In fact, the duo have died — and been resurrected — over an astounding 100 times, proving that you just can't keep a Winchester down.
Fitting: He Somewhat Remained A Hunter
Though it is unclear the extent of his hunter life after his brother's death, one of the final scenes shows his son inked with an anti-possession tattoo. This may likely imply that he taught his son some hunting, keeping the family business somewhat alive.
A Lackluster Plot
Supernatural boldly chose to forego the usual TV finale format - virtually every plot thread was already tied off in the penultimate episode, leaving one final hour to focus entirely on Sam and Dean Winchester. In theory, this made sense.
Although Sam tries to protect the other children, various fights ensue, and the children are killed off one by one. Eventually, only Jake Talley and Sam are left, at which point Sam is stabbed by Jake. Sam dies in Dean's arms.
Sam (Jared Padalecki) then lived out the rest of his human life as a husband and father before eventually reuniting with his older brother in heaven. But even as that ending aired, fans knew it was a little different from the original plan.
When Dean had first met Ben Dean considered the possibility that Ben might actually be his son. Lisa confirmed to Dean that Ben wasn't his son and his similarities to him was due to her 'type' that she hooked up with that Dean had fallen under.
Season 3. While trying to cope with his impending death and make the best of his final year, Dean begins to start hunting the freed Demons. Meeting a seemingly helpful demon Ruby, Dean learns that he too may become a demon himself if he burns in Hell too long.
Power: Dean
Even if Sam is taller and generally seems more fit, Dean has demonstrated on many occasions that he's the more powerful of the Winchester brothers.
Not only does Dean die on a routine vampire hunt, passing away slowly in his brother's arms (which coincidentally may be the best scene in the entire final season), but he's briskly whisked away into Heaven solo.
“Goodbye, Sam” are Dean's final words as his hand drops and a tear rolls down his cheek.
Before dying, John tells Dean, if he can't save Sam, he'll have to kill him, should he become evil.
Emma Winchester is the daughter of Dean Winchester and Lydia.
After Dean died in the series finale, Sam went on to get married and have a child, whom he named after his brother.
Supernatural Season 13 has added a new cast member whose surname will be abundantly familiar to fans. Danneel Ackles, an actress who, of course, is the wife of Dean Winchester himself, Jensen Ackles, is set to play a recurring character.
Season 7. To reiterate, there are no bad seasons of Supernatural. However, Season 7 is the most disjointed of the bunch. The Leviathans are easily the show's least interesting villains, whose schemes for world domination somehow involve both curing cancer and fattening up the whole population to eat them.
Anyway, head to season 5 to see multiple heartbreaking Supernatural episodes. The first came with "Dark Side of the Moon." In this episode, the show ups the ante a bit when Sam and Dean both die. With both dead, the brothers can't really do anything to bring the other back.
Eileen Leahy - Sam's final love (Season 15)
That is until Chuck wiped everyone from existence (“Despair”).
In the end, Dean (Jensen Ackles) went out the way he always thought he would: Hunting. He was killed in the series finale while taking on a nest of vampires, but his ultimate end would come in the show's final moments, when he was reunited with Sam (Jared Padalecki) in heaven.
In his interview with KSiteTV, Misha Collins, who portrayed Castiel from the very beginning of the character being introduced, said that he was actually approached to make an appearance. The only reason that couldn't happen is his busy schedule filming for Gotham Knights.
