Any dress that does not have a belt — a shift, fit and flare, empire, raised waist, trapeze — is going to be more body-friendly to you now than separate tops and bottoms since there's no break at the waist. One-piece dresses glide over curves and balance body proportions, so you look more “even,” too.
Cotton, denim, silk, or wool gabardine are generally on the slimmer side and won't add any extra volume. Wide wale corduroy, on the other hand, along with crushed velvet, leather, suede, mohair, angora, taffeta, boucle, and flannel, tend to be a bit bulkier.
Black never fails to make you look slim and elegant. Darker shades of colors like blue, purple and brown can also help to hide flaws and create a slimming illusion. On the other hand, lighter colors, like white and khaki, can add pounds and give the illusion of a larger frame.
1. Shift the show to your legs. Born in the 1960s and popularized by everyone from Jackie O to Audrey Hepburn, shift dresses in straight and A-line shapes are a classic and classy solution to belly bulge. The overall silhouette is always crisp, roomy and stands away from the body — so there's no cling at the middle.
Opt for darker colors like black, navy, or charcoal.
Darker colors are slimming because they hide wrinkles, bulges, and other indicators of fat. Colors like white or beige can make you look like you have more belly fat than you do because they actually highlight those lumps and wrinkles and draw attention to them.
Line up. Vertical lines draw the eye up and down, rather than side to side, giving you a taller and narrower look. Think of vertical striped shirts and pinstriped business suits, though we wouldn't recommend wearing these together. As a rule, the closer the vertical lines are, the slimmer the look.
A-line dresses
This shape creates the illusion of an hourglass figure and makes your waist look even slimmer due to its proportions. Creating a balance where the bottom of the dress is wider than the waistline is almost always essential for a flattering outfit.
Deep Side Part
Switching where you part your hair doesn't seem like much of a style, but it's a quick and easy way to elevate your look and make your face appear slimmer. Like side-swept bangs, creating a deep part gives your face a slimming effect as it sweeps diagonally across your face.
One reason dark colours have this effect is that they draw the eye away from the body to the head, hands and feet, making you appear taller and slimmer. They also help hide any bumps or bulges. By contrast, lighter colours emphasise your contours, as these are more likely to produce shadows in light-coloured clothing.
The key to having expensive-looking outfits is by pairing them with simple, good-quality shoes and accessories. Add a pair of pumps and statement jewelry to dress up a look. I personally like to go for simple, good-quality jewelry to add to my outfit. Structured purses and belts can also make a difference in your look.
Don't wear tight or clingy garments over your belly and choose tops with ruching or drape. If you want to look stylish and highlight your strengths, it is best not to wear tight tops. They will accentuate every fat bubble you have and draw attention away from you and your fabulous clothes.
Accentuate your waist with A-line or empire waist skirts and dresses. Fit & flare dresses also flatter your figure and hides big thighs, as they fit tightly around the torso and fall loosely below the waist. The length of each garment is important: Loose tops should fall over the thighs to show off the curves.
Necklines are also important to consider when bringing the eye upward: look for scoop necks, v-necks, or square cuts to emphasize slim top-halves. Also consider collared shirts, ruffled necklines, embellished tops, and cheerful prints to distract from a larger bottom-half.
Tan legs trump pale legs when it comes to which looks slimmer. Not only do legs look slimmer when they're tan but they also seem to have more definition. But, you don't want to risk skin cancer by baking in the sun or the tanning bed. Instead, use a sunless tanner to achieve the color you want.
It should fit just against the body, but not tight. If you're wearing a wrap dress, make sure you can bend, move and sit and that the dressed stays appropriately wrapped. Generally, a dress of any type should gracefully skim your body. Even a body con dress should not be tight.
