Avoid using soap or other skin care products on your skin after shaving. Do not use makeup for a few hours after the beauty procedure. Use toner on your face if you feel a slight irritation.
Don'ts of face shaving
Avoid any kind of exfoliation a day after shaving. Avoid using actives after shaving for 2-3 days. Your post-shaving skincare should be minimal. Clean the razor and pat it dry before putting the cap on else it might get rusted.
After you shave, apply a moisturizing lotion or oil, preferably alcohol-free, and wait before using any makeup or facial creams.
Don't Wipe Harshly. Freshly shaved skin is sensitive and can be irritated if you rub it harshly with a towel. It can lead to redness, irritation and itchiness. Instead, once you are done shaving, rinse it with warm water and pat it dry gently with a soft towel.
You should wash your face both before and after shaving. Washing before shaving helps to soften wiry hairs, making them easier to shave, while washing your face with warm water after shaving cleans the skin of excess hair and product.
Shaving makes your skin dry. Moisturize your face immediately after shaving. This is even more important for those with dry skin, as shaving may further dry it out. Try to opt for a deep moisturizing cream or lotion.
Rinse with cool water
After you shave, Dr. Bullock recommends rinsing thoroughly with warm water to remove all traces of your shaving cream. Then, rinse with cool water to close those pores back up and prevent bacteria, dirt and other irritants from getting in.
It's important to apply a moisturizing lotion or oil after you shave to help keep your skin hydrated and ready for next time. Shaving may cause even more irritation to your skin if not done correctly.
Shaving it off can ensure that the makeup is seamlessly layered on the face. However, Dr Patel suggests that you wait for a minimum of 12 hours before you apply makeup after shaving, else it can lead to a bacterial infection.
If you want to keep a style with some stubble, then you probably need to leave your facial hair for 2-3 days in between shaves. Meanwhile, if rough and rugged isn't really your style, and you prefer a smooth, clean-shaven look, you probably need to shave every 1-2 days.
This leaves your skin vulnerable to the all the dirt, oil, and leftover ketchup that's on your dirty hands. After you're done shaving, just wait an hour until you touch your face.
Shaving regularly allows the skin on your face to get replenished and rejuvenated at a much faster rate. This along with the fact that shaving gets rid of dead skin cells, and contributes to regulated melanin and keratin production, leads to a much more younger looking skin.
What About Stubble? "Shaving does not cause extra hair growth or make a person's face hairier, this is actually a myth."
How effective is facial shaving? “Of course, you can shave your face, but it cannot become a habit. Similar to exfoliation, doing it too many times or too roughly can harm the skin,” said Dr Rashmi Shetty, celebrity dermatologist and founder of Ra Skin and Aesthetics Clinic in Mumbai.
After shaving, hair follicles can get stuck inside your skin, due to clogged pores, thereby causing red bumps. Along with red bumps, you may also experience a burning sensation on your skin, tenderness and itchiness. Some may notice blister-like pus-filled pimples as well.
Immediately after shaving, your skin may feel smooth enough, but within a few hours, that stubble will start reappearing. That's because you didn't shave off as much hair as you thought you did. So, if you haven't already, invest in a quality razor that uses a very sharp blade.
Before you shave, make sure that your pores are open. If you don't do this, you're opening the door to irritated skin and even ingrown hairs. The best way to open up the pores is with a shower, which is why most men tend to shave in the morning.
The Cetaphil Soothing Gel Cream With Aloe lives up to its claims. I had skin irritation after shaving and used a dab of the cream on the affected area. Not only did it provide soothing relief, but it helped calm and treat the redness. By the next morning, my skin looked good.
Shaving after showering
This is because the hot shower water cleanses your skin: the steam opens up your pores, flushing out the dirt that has accumulated since your last shower, and causes your hair follicles to soften - making it easier for you to enjoy a closer, more comfortable shave, with fewer passes.
For those with a shaved head, as the skin in this area is particularly delicate, it's a good rule to use a sunscreen with at least spf 30 even in the city; it would also be good to protect yourself with a hat, especially if you spend a whole day outdoors.
Shaving facial hair not only removes ingrown hairs, but also exfoliates the dead skin cells, which results in glowing and smooth skin. It's an effective way of achieving soft skin at home.
