Ymir is the father of the race of giants in Norse mythology and the grandfather of Odin, King of the Gods.
Ymir is a primeval being in Norse mythology who is the progenitor of all jötnar (giants). "Ymir" also means "the scream." Both are appropriate to Ymir Fritz, as she was the progenitor of all Titans ("giants" in the original Japanese) and possessed the power of the Founding Titan, which is used by screaming.
History. Many years ago, a nameless Eldian girl lived in the streets of Marley as a beggar with no home. Eventually, she was found by a man who gave her the name "Ymir," after the ancestor Ymir Fritz, and brought her into a group dedicated to the worship of Ymir.
Aurgelmir, also called Ymir, in Norse mythology, the first being, a giant who was created from the drops of water that formed when the ice of Niflheim met the heat of Muspelheim. Aurgelmir was the father of all the giants; a male and a female grew under his arm, and his legs produced a six-headed son.
While most people considered Ymir to be this larger-than-life figure, the truth of the matter is that she was actually nothing more than a captured slave who happened upon the Titan powers by accident and became a slave to the Eldian King.
Sexuality. Whilst Ymir's sexuality is never confirmed explicitly, it is accepted by the majority of fans that she is lesbian, as her only canon love interest was Historia and there is a scene with Reiner in which it can be implied she expresses a disinterest in men.
After being brought back to Marley, Ymir willingly allowed herself to be killed and was eaten by Marcel Galliard's brother, Porco Galliard, transferring the power of the Jaw Titan to him.
Ymir, also known as Aurgelmir, is a key figure in the Norse origin myth. He is the forefather of all Jötnar and is described in some mythology as the first sentient being. After he was born from ice and fire, he was nursed by a cosmic heifer named Audhumla, who also emerged from the water.
60 years later, still as a Pure Titan, Ymir encountered the young Warriors Marcel Galliard, Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, and Annie Leonhart. The mindless Ymir tried to grab Reiner, but Marcel pushed him out of the way and was devoured before he could transform.
High says that Ymir was no god, and "he was evil and all his descendants." High explains that Ymir is the ancestor of all jötnar (specifically hrimthursar) and that when Ymir slept, he sweated, and from his left and right arm grew a male and a female, and his left leg produced a son with his right leg, and from them ...
Ymir is officially documented by multiple sources (character bios on anime's website, character bio in the official guidebook) as being physically 17. She has now revealed that she has an extra 60 years tacked onto this, in which she did not age.
Ymir Fritz obtained the power of a Titan as a young girl. Being the first person to become a Titan shifter of The Founding Titan. Ymir Fritz is said to be the founder of the Eldian empire and “the people of Ymir” which is the only race of people who can be turned into Titans.
It's only at the end of the chapter, when Ymir made a choice from her own free will, that her eyes were unveiled. That's why I think in this context, the shadowed eyes symbolize the cycle of oppression as a whole. Everyone in that flashback was a part of it, regardless of their role.
The Subjects of Ymir (ユミルの民 Yumiru no Tami?) are an ethnic group descended from Ymir Fritz and the only race capable of becoming Titans. They are the majority race of a nation called Eldia, and are often called Eldians (エルディア人 Erudia-jin?).
Dying as a 23-year-old fits Ymir's chronology following her capture by the Eldians. She transforms into a Titan at 10, spends 8 years or so dominating Eldia's neighboring countries, bears King Fritz's children at 18, then dies at 23 when her own children are around the age of 5.
Ymir (pronounced roughly “EE-mir;” Old Norse Ymir, “Screamer”) is a hermaphroditic giant and the first creature to come into being in the Norse creation myth.
Titans are ghastly, peculiar, and thoroughly disturbing, but they're not half as supernatural as the anomaly that brought them into existence. The Shining Centipede, or Centipede-kun as it's affectionately known to fans, is the insectoid entity that grants Ymir Fritz the Power of the Titans.
Founding Titan is the first and the strongest Titan of all the nine. If the Founding Titan is someone from Royal Bloodline, then it will possess limitless power. Eren Yeager was not someone of royal blood that's why he asked for Zeke's help to use the Founding Titan to its fullest.
Ymir is weaker simply because she did not know how to use the full extent of her titan power and had no training to further develop her powers.
Odin, Vili, and Vé killed the giant Ymir. When Ymir fell, there issued from his wounds such a flood of blood, that all the frost ogres were drowned, except for the giant Bergelmir who escaped with his wife by climbing onto a lur [a hollowed-out tree trunk that could serve either as a boat or a coffin].
Mimir (Nordic: ᛗᛁᛗᛁᚱ), formerly known as Puck, is a Celtic fae who became Odin's advisor and the ambassador of the Aesir Gods until Odin imprisoned him for 109 years. After being freed by Kratos and Atreus, he became their ally.
Powers and Abilities
Mimir describes Ymir as "a being of pure creation and chaos". However, he was still notably inferior to Aesir such as Odin, who stabbed Ymir with Gungnir and spilled his life-blood before fashioning six of the Nine Realms from his body (the exceptions being Muspelheim, Niflheim and Jötunheim).
4 Armin Arlet
A once feeble boy who was known for his intellect and had never recorded a single titan kill now has a conscience clouded with the death of countless people. After inheriting the Colossal Titan from Bertholdt, his explosive transformation at sea during the attack on Marley destroys a dozen naval ships.
At the time, the Eldians were just a small, warmongering tribe. One day, Ymir was accused as a thief and was punished by the king of the Eldians, a man named Fritz, to be hunted like an animal.
Zeke's character takes a turn after having been devoured by Ymir. Upon encountering Armin Arlert in the Paths, the two of them have a conversation, with Zeke explaining the origins of life and its purpose to multiply.
