Stage 3C. Stage 3C can also mean different things. Your cancer is between 5cm and 7cm in size or has spread into one or more of the following: the nerve close to the lung (phrenic nerve)
T1 (includes T1a, T1b, and T1c): Tumor is 2 cm (3/4 of an inch) or less across. T2: Tumor is more than 2 cm but not more than 5 cm (2 inches) across. T3: Tumor is more than 5 cm across. T4 (includes T4a, T4b, T4c, and T4d): Tumor of any size growing into the chest wall or skin.
Tumors are larger than 4 cm. Other features may or may not be present. AND have grown into the lung's outer lining (parietal pleura) or nearby sites including chest wall, phrenic nerve OR have grown into the lining of the heart (pericardium) OR primary and secondary tumors are in the same lobe.
A lung mass is an abnormal growth or area in the lungs that is more than 3 centimeters in diameter. Anything smaller than this is classified as a lung nodule. Lung masses can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
The risk of them being cancerous increases as they become bigger. By definition, a nodule is smaller than 30 mm. The chances of nodules larger than 10 mm being cancerous are about 15.2% . Tumors larger than 30 mm are considered lung masses and are usually assumed to be cancerous .
Common food items that can be used to show tumor size in cm include: a pea (1 cm), a peanut (2 cm), a grape (3 cm), a walnut (4 cm), a lime (5 cm or 2 inches), an egg (6 cm), a peach (7 cm), and a grapefruit (10 cm or 4 inches).

Nodules between 6 mm and 10 mm need to be carefully assessed. Nodules greater than 10 mm in diameter should be biopsied or removed due to the 80 percent probability that they are malignant. Nodules greater than 3 cm are referred to as lung masses.
In the study, published online in the British Journal of Cancer, the average total tumor dimension was 7.5 centimeters, or roughly 3 inches.
A 2018 study found that the median doubling time varies by type of NSCLC: Adenocarcinomas had a median doubling time of 261 days. Squamous cell carcinomas had a median doubling time of 70 days. Other lung cancers, which included large cell carcinomas and SCLC, also had a median doubling time of 70 days.
Stage IIB lung cancer describes a tumor that is 5 cm or less in size that has spread to the lymph nodes within the lung, called the N1 lymph nodes. A stage IIB cancer can also be a tumor more than 5 cm wide that has not spread to the lymph nodes.
Small Cell Lung Cancer
It is a fast-growing cancer that spreads much more quickly than other types of lung cancer. There are two different types of small cell lung cancer: Small cell carcinoma (oat cell cancer; most small cell lung cancers are of the oat cell type)
The stage of a cancer describes the size of a tumour and how far it has spread from where it originated. The grade describes the appearance of the cancerous cells.
Our study indicated that patients with a tumor size of 3–7 cm had a tendency to have brain metastasis, liver metastasis and lung metastasis. Meanwhile, the results also demonstrated that patients with a tumor size ≥7 cm were more prone to have bone metastasis, brain metastasis, lung metastasis.
To learn the stage of your disease, your doctor may order x-rays, lab tests, and other tests or procedures. A cancer is always referred to by the stage it was given at diagnosis, even if it gets worse or spreads. New information about how a cancer has changed over time is added to the original stage.
3A: The tumor is smaller than 5 centimeters (cm) but has spread to 4-9 nodes. The tumor is larger than 5cm and has spread to 1 to 9 nodes.
Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (BAC): A type of NSCLC, BAC is actually an older term and is now considered a subtype of lung adenocarcinoma. The survival rate with BAC is significantly better than with other forms of NSCLC, especially when it is caught early and only one tumor is present.
Size and malignancy
[10] confirmed the observation that nodule diameter is associated with lung cancer probability, with a significant nonlinear relationship in patients undergoing low-dose CT screening (p<0.001 for nonlinearity).
The five-year survival rate for lung cancer is 56 percent for cases detected when the disease is still localized (within the lungs). However, only 16 percent of lung cancer cases are diagnosed at an early stage. For distant tumors (spread to other organs) the five-year survival rate is only 5 percent.
The Mechanics of Pulmonary Nodules
There is very little growth or change, if there's any at all. Cancerous pulmonary nodules, however, are known to grow relatively quickly—usually doubling in size every four months but sometimes as fast as every 25 days.
Tumors that are generally larger than three centimeters (1.2 inches) are called masses. If your tumor is three centimeters or less in diameter, it's commonly called a nodule. If the nodule forms in your lungs, it's called a pulmonary nodule. Hamartomas are the most common type of benign lung nodule.
Most lung nodules don't cause any symptoms and are often found on a chest X-ray or CT scan performed for another reason. If symptoms are present, they may include: Coughing.
Stage 2A. Stage 2A means that the cancer is between 4cm and 5cm in size but there are no cancer cells in any lymph nodes.
About 20.5% of people who have any kind of lung cancer live at least 5 years after diagnosis. This 5-year survival rate is 24% overall for non-small-cell lung cancer and 6% overall for small-cell lung cancer. Five-year survival rates for people who have NSCLC are: 61% if the cancer hasn't spread outside the lung.
